Record Those First Steps

by fallyn96 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Apr 11 '01
Pros: 500x zoom, color viewfinder, inexpensive
Cons: no flip out viewfinder, some buttons in awkward positions
Before my son was born, I decided that I wanted a video camera. My grandmother gave us hers, but it broke shortly after our son was born. I was disappointed, but what could I do? We couldn't afford to go out and purchase one, still can't. But my mother...

A GREAT First Camcorder!

by IleneG , Nov 27 '00
Pros: Great picture quality, Small price
Cons: no view finder side window
***Before you read on, let me state here I have not tested this with just the battery yet. I have been told that the battery life is around 2 hours but it is always smart to have a back up which runs around $69***

I just bought my very first...

The Canon ES55 & ES50. Hi Quality & Cheap - A Bargain

by jwlester , Oct 09 '00
Pros: Great Optics, nice Zoom, high quality Hi8 - Great all around camera for a bargain price
Cons: You may need to purchase a second (and third?) battery.
For non-professional, family use, this is one of the best camcorders on the market!

If you have read some of my other reviews, you'll know that I am quite happy to give products bad ratings if they are deserved. In this case,...

Spend the extra $100 for a nicer 8mm camcorder

by flashfriday Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Oct 06 '00
Pros: Cheap, Canon quality
Cons: No stabilizer, no lcd, video light is only average
I would recommend that you pass on the ES50 and go for a slightly better Canon model. Although it is inexpensive and has many good features, it is lacking in some of the necessary features.

1. No stabilizer.
2. No LCD.
3. Built in...

A good one to start with...

by missmu , Feb 02 '01
Pros: Inexpensive, easy to use, good for beginners
Cons: No image stabilizer
If you are afraid of plunking down mega bucks to get a first camcorder, try the Canon ES50. You can find it on sale for about $250 or less. (Also read, "disposable"!) It's compact size makes it easy to carry anywhere.

I use mine mainly for...

Canon? I would think twice....

by userdan , Aug 27 '01
Pros: Looks really cool. Lots of nice features in one package. Price.
Cons: Badly made and very non reliable.
As the owner of a canon ES800 I will give my view on this product line:
Do not get fouled by the fancy ES line look ("a steal") and lots of features for less money.

After I repaired my 6 years old Canon ES800 three times, I finally...

Great things come in small packages

by lillylovey , Feb 26 '01
Pros: goes anywhere. very light.
Cons: not digital
I have completely loved using this product. I had a big old camcorder before and rarely used it. This is so convenient that you can take it anywhere with you. I use it a lot and my children love watching and remembering the things we've done together....
