by blueman86 , Oct 22 '00
Pros: Interest rate is low and immediate acceptancy
Cons: Took a while to recieve our card (but it was no big deal)
Me and my wife heard about this site from a friend of ours. Being just married we had no credit history and everyone turned us down. So we applyied for the student credit card. We were immediatly accepted! It was great! The best aspects of this card...

Relatively worry-free card--until the bill arrives! ;)

by lauren_m , Jun 06 '00
Pros: Cash back, 800 number, bill is easy to read, discount coupons
Cons: Beware: high interest rates!
Despite the high interest rates (22% on cash advances at ATM machines--yikes!) I've been very pleased with my Associates Student Visa. I've had this card for about 14 months, mainly because it is one of the card companies that didn't turn me down, being...

Two Worry-Free Years

by ruff , Jun 01 '00
Pros: They even accepted me!
Cons: Very high interest rate, still no web access.
I picked up a Student Visa from Associates National Bank shortly after entering college. My reason for choosing them? They let me. With no credit history, save for a secured JCPenney charge account, I was flatly denied by every other card issuer in...

Associates is good for college students

by stonekoldk , May 25 '00
Pros: No BS fees, interest rate is tolerable, good first credit card for students
Cons: slow phone lines, statements are mailed out with only couple days to send in payment
I am in my early 20's and I work full time, and go to college but when I go to apply for credit I am constantly denied, reason no credit history. Well up until early 99, I would be given this reason. I would have a hefty balance in my checking and...

A Fine First Card

by livewire_13 , Dec 14 '09
Pros: Accepted as a college student, it's a Visa card
Cons: rewards require paying exorbitantly high interest rates
The Student Visa card offered by Citi (purchaed from Associates in early 2000's) can be considered a staple for college students. I signed up for mine, my first credit card, back in March 2004, and I had forgotten that my roommate actually had the same ...

Lots of Hoops but I find it worth it

by athxu , May 21 '02
Pros: 3% cash back
Cons: high interest, must carry balance to get cash back
There is but one reason to get this card: it has 3% cash back! The catch? Well, there are several.

1. You must carry a balance month to month to get the cash back.

2. Which of course means you have to pay interest on the balance....

Avoid these cards like a Plague!!!

by kil45 , Jun 22 '00
Pros: Easy to get, Cash back program
Cons: Bad customer service, high apr, Can't check account online
It was a mistake for me to sign up for an Associates Visa card. I am a college student with little credit history(a Macy's card). One day, while I was walking around campus a guy comes up to my friends and I and offers us a bunch of free stuff if we...

What are you DOING!?!?

by hotaru25 , May 27 '00
Pros: reliable and fast
Cons: bad service
I selected this company because the Air Force Academy required us to sign up with a company as a student and new cadet. I had originally signed up with a nameless company, but they were bought out by AANB, thus dragging me into a process that I still do...

Live in the now. Do you even have electricity?

by daamoth , Jul 19 '00
Pros: The ability to buy things that you can't possibly afford. That's why you got the stupid card to begin with.
Cons: You actually have to pay them back someday and trying to do so online is like pulling teeth.
Hey Associates! What gives? No online bill payment? Come on, get with it. Actually, back in January, I got an e-mail from the Associates saying that they were "considering" online bill payment. Considering! What's that all about? Just do...

Associates Nation Bank - Screwed

by bubbasmythe , Nov 20 '04
Pros: Build some credit for college students.
Cons: Read the review. :(
It's nothing new that credit card companies target college students with little or no credit. I got this card my first year in college and it served me well for years. As long as I kept it paid off every month it was wonderful. But somewhere companies ...

Dishonesty and Money shouldn't mix

by toughcritique , Dec 01 '01
Pros: Accepts College Students. Pay Bills Online.
Cons: High %, Dishonest/Incompetent personnel
I've been a Associates Visa cardholder for over two years. The interest rate is high, but when i got the card I wasn't even in college: so I had no choice. They have an online payment center (www.studentcreditcard.com), where you can pay your statement...

Interest rate - 3% cash back = saving $$?

by bluefishie , Mar 12 '01
Pros: easy to read account summaries, cash back program
Cons: limitations on the cash back program, high interest rate, slow customer service
I signed up for this credit card back in the days of being an undergrad, and have had this card for almost three years now. I signed up because I'd never seen a cash back program giving 3% cash back before. Although the interest rate was high, I...
