Pros: Excellent service, highly convenient, doesn't cost me a cent. Cons: Unfortunately, if you're not already a customer, chances are you're not eligible.
How do you feel about your bank? I love mine. Not everyone is eligible for USAA's services. But if you are eligible, you'd be crazy not to use them. There's a misconception out there about eligibility for USAA membership. Many people seem to think ...

USAA confused about Family Member
by syberlink ,Nov 10 '06
Pros: Parents who have to worry about there children over seas are not Military family Cons: USAA- Those with the highest FICO scores get the best rate is not true.
My son's in Military signed me up at USAA. They receive great rates and I don't. My FICO score of 805. MY Credit Card rate is 10% and balance Transfer is 13%. USAA said I was not in a Military Family. I spent 10 years myself in the military so this was news to me. My son's serve in Iraq and Afghanistan and I am not a military family. Adult Children of Military members are family and never served in the Military.

USAA is simply outstanding
by boowhip ,Dec 08 '05
Pros: All with one company: auto; life; medical; homeowners; renters; mortgage; investments; checking; savings; and Billpay. Cons: The inability to deposit cash to my checking or savings account.
Our family has been fortunate enough to be able to use USAA for all of our financial and insurance needs for the last twenty years. My adult daughter and son also use them exclusively.
We're always able to talk to someone on the telephone at USAA who is knowledgeable and helpful. You cannot find a better customer service.
We've never had a problem of any kind. Even when I was stationed in Europe, and would receive a bill in the mail that was long overdue, they would just tell me to pay the bill as soon as possible, no questions asked.
I use USAA's Web Billpay and it has totally changed my attitude about paying bills. It's like having my own personal accountant and it's free. No more writing checks, writing account numbers on checks, buying stamps, licking stamps, etc. If I could just get USAA to do my income taxes for free...

Great Bank
by mel972 ,Sep 28 '06
Pros: This is what I call free Banking! Cons: There isn't a branch location in my state.
What I like about USAA's basic checking account is that they have monthly cash back rewards, which amounts to .5% when you use your debit card. You also get refunds for any ATM fees incurred when using other banks ATM's. You also get free checks for the life of the account (Excellent if you move a lot.)Something new is their Quickpost program, because their bank is located in Texas, and I live in Virginia I can take my deposits to any Quickpost location(inside of most UPS Stores) and it will be credited the next business day. The UPS Store will give you a tracking number so you can track your deposit envelope all the way to the bank!

The BEST bank around
by jabramowitz ,Aug 08 '05
Pros: ATM Rebates, pre-paid deposit envelopes, prompt and responsive service Cons: NONE
I have been banking with USAA for over 15 years and by far it is the best banking relationship I have ever had. They are prompt, friendly and very professional. This is banking at its best. With ATM fee rebates, I never worry about finding an ATM. Pre-paid deposit envelopes means I never pay to make a deposit. During my time with USAA I have never felt the need for a local bank! I give USAA my highest recommendation.

I trust U.S.A.A .with my life.
by faith8 ,Oct 02 '07
Pros: They know their business.I have never had reps tell me different things or mis-inform me. Cons: I have yet to find any cons with U.S.A.A..They even send Christmas cards!!
U.S.A.A. is amazing. We have had them for 8 years now and we started with auto insurance. They were the lowest quotes we had ever seen! The big savings came when we bought our 1st home. Not only was the insurance more than reasonable, when Allstate and the other major insurance companies started cancelling all of our neighbors insurance because we are a coastal community,U.S.A.A. was the only company that was not interested in cancelling, giving us the run-around or looking to rob us the way some smaller companies tried to take advantage of my neighbors.Every discussion I have ever had with a rep for U.S.A.A. has never been short of an awesome experience!I even had an investment broker from another institution tell me he was jealous because he was not able to access U.S.A.A. for himself & his family!I have never once had 2 reps at U.S.A.A. tell me 2 entirely different things about 1 subject the way other institutions do which we all know is very frustrating. They were also very supportive when my husband was last deployed. He was able to access them from the Middle East without any issues. They also called our home just to check on us!

Best roadside service you can get!
by truthstyker ,Jan 14 '08
Pros: Reasonable, prompt and courteous service. Cons: Available only to USAA members :(
I have had AAA and other road side services in the past, but none of them can compare to the terrific USAA service. For about $14 per year per car, I have dead battery, key lockout, tire changing and towing services at the ready. I've used the service at least a half-dozen times in the past 4 years, and I have never had to wait long for help. Those rescuing me have been very knowledgeable, polite and professional. Another nice feature is that when you call USAA, they will call you back when the tow truck is in route, and again when the truck is arriving. USAA always follows up to make sure you were satisfied with the towing company's response. It is comforting to know such help is only a phone call away.

Horrible service
by tsueth01 ,Nov 29 '06
Pros: Absolutely nothing Cons: Everything
I was involved in an accident on November 22, 2006 with a client of USAA Insurance. The car that rear ended me on the Interstate was ticketed for following too close. He should have also received tickets for excessive speed and failure to maintain control. I faxed a copy of the accident report to USAA showing that their client was at fault and had been cited. After eight days of calling no less than 3 times a day, I have yet to speak to an adjuster. My car was totaled. I have incurred tow truck charges, large medical bills, loss of work, rental car charges, injuries sustained not only by me, but also my daughter. I have a large deductible with my insurance company so I was trying to deal with USAA personally. Due to their total disregard, I have made the decision to hire an attorney. This is so much against my beliefs, however nothing else seems to faze them.
If my insurance company treated anyone the way I have been treated by USAA, I would cancel them immediately.

USAA Rocks!
by bmwkbiker ,Dec 24 '06
Pros: Basically free banking unless you can't avoid overdrafts.
Overdrafts are less painfull too. Cons: Effectively no bank branches. This hasn't ever been a problem for me.
I just wrote a review panning a credit card comparing I'm having issues with. So I thought I balance it out.
USAA is great. Closest thing I know of to free banking. They even rebate ATM fees charged buy the other banks. There is a limit but unless you use the ATM more than a couple times a week it is not problem.
Interest on savings accounts and CD is much better than average. Low loans and credit card APRs if your credit its good.
Okay, so there aren't any branches to go to but your on the internet right now aren't you? So unless you have a problem with internet banking not having a branch shouldn't be a big deal.

Love USAA
by cherylbugsf ,Sep 11 '07
Pros: Great rates, ATM reimbursement, Rebate Credit Card Cons: No brick & mortar banks
I just called USAA to inquire about the Labor and Service option we have on our auto coverage - as usual, I was greeted with excellent customer service. I also really love that they reimburse ATM fees, I know some people don't like the fact that you can't walk into a bank but in the last 3 years that has not been an issue for me. I also have my engagement ring (as well as other things, homes, etc.) insured through USAA and have not found better prices or services anywhere - period. I don't doubt that some people have had negative experiences, they happen but overall my experience has been on par with the Nordstrom level of service and not the Wal-Mart level of service I've come to expect from other banks and large companies in general. I'd definitely recommend USAA to any eligible person.

So far it has been a good experience
by subrot0 ,Feb 09 '07
Pros: Good service, decent customer service and large number of products and services Cons: There is no face to look at. People sometimes need a face to empathize with.
My father had USAA and he urged me to join. And they have done a fairly good job. My dad passed away December 2006 and USAA was the only bank that went out of their way to assist us. Our other banks could care less.
USAA actually set us up with their financial counselors so that my mother could ask financial questions and get real answers. Even though they were plugging USAA products and services they were quite neutral.
Is USAA an 800 pound gorilla? Probably. But they execute well on their products. Customer service is fairly good. I have called them on weekends, nights and they have been responsive.
I plan to invest with USAA. They have my car insurance and my home. I will not use their banking service because my credit union provides reasonable services.
The only fault I have with USAA is that they have an odd mix of products and services on their website. It makes me wonder who does their analytics.

My accounts are locked-no online communication
by shelrub ,Feb 17 '07
Pros: So far, with this problem, there are none. Cons: When one is denied access to his accounts for some unexplained reason, no solution.
I attempted to sign on to my USAA Mastercard account and after submitting myriad personal details I was informed that the info did not match what you have in your file. I
need to contact customersupport on line but have no e-mail address. I am told I can Unlock my accounts onlñy by calling
some 1-800 #. I am in Mexico where I spend 6 months each year forthe past 33 years. I cannot call the 800 number, I am lucky if I can call my neighbor across the street. I need to communicate with USAA on the internet. Member for 51
years. My current E-mail address is: shelrub@email.com.
I am not happy with the lack of "customer support" and I
am blocked from upgrading my personal profile.

I work for an insurance company, but I do my business with USAA
by kmcb ,Jan 03 '07
Pros: Affordable, Excellent Customer Service, Wide range of products, helpfull educational material
Cons: None, I love it!
I've worked at over five different insurance carriers - in fact, I used to be an adjuster. As such, I know quite a bit about how companies operate and who pays their claims. Often after an accident the insurance adjusters for each carrier will need to talk to determine liability, etc. USAA adjusters are professional, and educated and truly look out for their insureds. Sadly, the same can not be said for all carriers. Additionally, as a consumer, USAA has provided me with exceptional service and fantastic rates. This year, as usual, we received a dividend off of our already low rates.
I know there are a lot of people out there that feel some sort of bizarre loyalty to their insurance agent, but when it comes down to it, isn't service and price more important?

USAA The Ultimate Bank
by cp10216 ,Mar 22 '07
Pros: The very best!!!! Cons: None
USAA is the best personal bank I have ever joined. They have a new concept called Deposit@Home, so you can actually scan in your checks up to $5000 and your deposit is immediate as soon as the scanned image is accepted. I have saved so much time not having to run to the bank to deposit a check. And I can do it 24 hours a day without leaving my home.
You must have a checking account and a USAA credit card for the deposit@home to show on the right side of your screen once your logged in. You need a scanner I have an HP all in one C6150 and it works perfect. Once I applied for a credit card and was approved. They let you know for the most part within seconds if you have been approved.

Lost that loving feeling
by pterional ,Jun 05 '08
Pros: Military members only. Cons: Rapid decline in customer service.
I have been a USAA member since 1987. My feeling toward the company has always been overall positive. Like most members I utilize several of their services including insurance and banking. I have always paid my bills on time but due to a US Postal error they did not receive a payment. After over twenty years of near perfect payments I was sent a vitriolic letter stating that I was being uncooperative and that I had broken my contractual agreement, thus they were freezing my credit line immediately. I was chagrined at receiving such a letter. How could a company that has profited from my loyalty be so abusive without even trying to call me?
Although USAA prides itself on customer satisfaction and longevity their action proves otherwise. If I dont receive an apology from USAA for their vicious correspondence I will take my money elsewhere. Good customers should be valued and treated with respect.
