It's Time For A Change...A New Change. Not This Change. Whirlpool Gold GU1500XTLT

by jetbluefan1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, May 09 '03
Pros: contemporary looks, many cleaning cycles and features, lots of space to store plates/silverware
Cons: it doesn't clean or dry well, silverware rack is not too sturdy, close tab
Recently my house went under a “total destruction renovation” type of work thingy, or whatever you may want to call it. In other words, we got a new kitchen costing us over $13,000 since we wanted it to look beautiful with brand new appliances, ...

Versatile, Nice looking, Works Well, Options Galore

by scharnet , Mar 06 '04
Pros: Many options, Easy to use, Food Grinder,Top Rack has Direct Feed Spray Arm, Engery Efficient
Cons: Getting to know best dish placement. KNOW YOUR ELECTRICAL SITUATION - THIS IS HARDWIRED
I've only owned Whirlpool brand dishwashers, so my frame of reference is based on more entry level Whirlpools. We kept an open mind on brands when shopping around - with Kitchen Aid, Maytag and GE being strong contenders. Being that Kitchen Aid and ...

OK machine, but just OK

by frostycat , Jul 01 '05
Pros: Very nice, convenient controls. Quiet. Large capacity and flexible loading options. Good cleaning.
Cons: Stupidly designed silver-tray. Discoloration of plastic interior beginning.
Bought two of these in last two years for two different locations. Both work just fine, better than previous Kitchen Aids, but nothing spectacular. Large capacity. Flexible and easy load options. Quiet in operation and frugal with detergent and ...

Most expensive and WORST dishwasher we've ever had!

by lyomtoob , Jan 17 '04
Pros: Quiet
Cons: Poorly designed and constructed, difficult to load, doesn't dry dishes, silverware basket flops open
We bought this dishwasher 2 years ago when our old one failed. We did our homework, using Consumer Reports, and selected this dishwasher because it was highly rated and delivered a nice package of features for the price. I have to say, this is the ...

Do not purchase this machine/ask for Buy-back option

by sharlene730 , Oct 17 '05
Pros: The top rack is removeable & lower rack allows for oversized objects.
Cons: Doesn't clean the dishes at all & Whirlpool is very difficult to deal with.
We purchased this machine because of the great inner design and the consumer reports spoke highly of it. We purchased this machine in April and have had it serviced 10 times in the past 5 1/2 months to no avail. From the first load washed the machine ...

HORRIBLE MACHINE!

by adelinamz , Apr 24 '04
Pros: Looks good, can fit a lot of dishes, very flexible loading capability, pretty quiet operation
Cons: Long wash cycle and DOESN'T CLEAN WELL at all!!!
We chose this machine based upon the Consumer Reports rating---it's the first time in my experience they've been SO wrong! We purchased the machine in June 2002. It cleaned poorly from DAY 1. After being service repeatedly to no avail, in Aug 2002, the ...

A Good Machine, But......

by sbarracl , Sep 24 '03
Pros: Larger capacity, pretty quiet
Cons: Poor cleaning without running hot water at tap, starts cleaning cycle with cold water
We redid our kitchen and bought all new appliances. I have to say, the only appliance we were disappointed with was this dishwasher. It has a lot of good features, but one major flaw. For us, it did not clean the dishes, they often came out dirty and had ...

Should Clean Better!

by armstb01 , Feb 01 '03
Pros: Nice features for the price. Very Stylish and durable.
Cons: Does NOT get the dishes clean.
My wife and I have owned this model for about 6 months now. We have found that this model does NOT get our dishes clean enough in our opinion. When we went to buy this unit, everyone we talked to said to get a whirlpool. Apparently the marketing...

Not Happy
by dishann ,Nov 05 '03
Pros: Love the fold down wine glass holder
Cons: Tines too short on rack. Plates flop over like a row of dominos!
Had this unit a year now and wished I could have returned it right away. The plate rack's tines are so short that when I put my dishes in they fall over like a row of dominos. I then have to spend the time to prop them all back up again. Drives me insane! Also there are only tines on the front of the rack and not in the back. So unless you use it for pots and pans, the back portion of the rack is useless for plates. The silverware holder is constantly flying open and the latch does not work properly. Plus the silverware has a tendency to "nest" and not get clean. Doesn't clean dishes well unless you have very soft water.

STAY AWAY
by longbow3866 ,Aug 03 '04
Pros: looks good on outside
Cons: everything on inside
As with many others above, we bought this machine based upon the Consumer Reports ratings.

We purchased our machine 2 1/2 years ago and have finally decided to throw it out. After the first 6 months, our motor went out. Luckily the $400 repair was covered by the warranty. Now, 2 years later the motor is out again. We called Whirlpool thinking they might "feel our pain" as this was the second motor to fail. They were courteous at first, but then curtly explained "We can't help you".

What a joke, we paid over $600 for this machine and it is a piece of junk. In addition to the lousy motors, the inside of the machine gets "gunk" all inside the trays and rollers. The little clips for the extra racks broke after the first few months. The manual says you do not need to rinse your dishes, except for bones and the like, before placing them in the washer. This is true only if you know how to take apart the machine and remove the gunk that will clog filter/screen.

Be smart and STAY AWAY from this machine.

Avoid Whirlpool
by martywny ,Feb 16 '06
Pros: Nothing stands out.
Cons: Flawed product, company does not care.
I bought the new dishwasher and after several months the interior was completely discolored. It now has an orange tint and looks worse then the one it replaced. Whirlpool's response is that they never heard of this problem before and suggested that I use Cascade (always have) and use a commercial product to clean it. They also stated that this comes from tomato-based foods. My last dishwasher spent 15 years eating tomato-based foods and never had an inclination to change color on me. They know a lot about a problem that they have never heard of before my complaint. I am aware of two people with the same problem who have received the same response from Whirlpool.

The real problem - Whirlpool is using materials that are inferior in quality to those products of a generation ago. The liner is porous and absorbs colors from whatever is washed. Since the purpose of a dishwasher is to clean food residue from dishes I would expect that it should not make a difference what goes into it.

Heater dead and not available
by imbatman ,Mar 22 '05
Pros: It is shiny
Cons: Poor reliability and very poor customer service.
I have had my Whirlpool dishwasher for 24 months and the heater coil went out. The repairman said that they go out very frequently. They are not available from whirlpool and the parts distributors (I have tried 3 plus the repairman)cannot get the part and have no ETA. I have emailed whirlpool without any reply. I am shopping for a new washer dryer (front loading) and they will not be considered. I am very unhappy, even before the heater failed the dishwasher was not cleaning the dishes very well.

Briefly OK Then Dirty Dishes
by aj2me ,Nov 30 '04
Pros: Nice design and nice look. Very quiet.
Cons: Expensive and dishes do not come clean
We bought this model after detailed study in C.R. magazine. First model delivered was the wrong color, Black vs Bisque.
Initially dishes came clean and we really liked the SaniRinse and AntiBacterial options, as our son was very sick.
Now, the taller glasses have small pieces of food & gunk in the bottoms. There is gunk hidden behind all the sliding parts for the drawers. Really gross. The tub is discolored slightly. The dishes do flop over and the Silverware holder lid pops open. They have some good ideas with the opening silver basket for sanitary reasons. But it is expensive and just does not get dishes clean.

Piece of junk!
by christine0186 ,Jan 25 '06
Pros: nothing
Cons: everything
This dishwasher has been a major headache for me. It leaves food on top of all glasses even after the longest cycle (pots & pans). I have to rinse the dishes before putting them in - so what's the point of owning this lemon! Not very durable either - the silverware rack has broken on me twice. If anyone can recommend a dishwasher that really works, please let me know!
