Pros: Conserves water, very attractive design, good keyboard layout, high speed spin cycle Cons: Lint buildup internally, mold formation, inferior pump design, inadequate rinse, poor repair history.
I bought this machine from the Sears Outlet store (Dallas) in May 2002 for $595. I also purchased the matching dryer for $370. The washer had operated flawlessly until August 2007. Because of the complexity of the washer I purchased a 5 year extended ...

Pros: Looks Good Cons: Destroys clothing....constant repairs....poor engineering
After doing some research, we decide on the Whirlpool Calypso washing machine two years ago. At first the washer seemed fine, true to the ads, it uses very little water, allows for large loads due to no agitator, and has a handy touch panel that is very ...

Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: Destructive to clothes and consumer's mental health.
I have used my machine approximately two months although it was installed in our new home late last year. After washing some new towels, I noticed a lot of pulled loops which gave the towels a shaggy appearance. Thinking they were of poor quality, I ...

Pros: Machine looks very nice, controls are easy to use Cons: poor washing ability, leaves white soapy spots and black streaks
We purchased our Whirlpool Calypso washing machine in January 2005 and have had nothing but trouble since day one. At first we noticed white soapy lint spots all over our dark clothing. We called the appliance store where we purchased the machine and ...

Pros: Cleans great-uses little electricity, water, or detergent Cons: Only comes in 3 colors
This machine works for me just the way the manufacturer said it would -- How often does that happen?
It uses very little electricity compared to other large capacity washers--and does thing have capacity?
It doesn't fill the tub up...

Pros: Large capacity. Lots of settings and features. Cons: Poor durability. High maintenance. High repair costs. Poor part stocking.
Washes great. Gets clothes clean. Lots of features. Uses less water and energy. That was the story for the first 15 months of use. Our Calypso worked great for the first 15 months we had it. Then it started having trouble draining. After the sixteenth ...

Pros: none Cons: constantly needs repair, twists clothes, bleach from previous cycles gets on dark clothes
I bought my collapso(and I do mean collapso) in February of 2005. First repair came in Oct. 05 (new pump). Had 2 service calls since then. Two of them was for the ld error and my repair man from sears said he could find nothing wrong on the first visit. ...

Pros: Calypso should be recalled by the manufacturer and replaced with another machine. See my review. Cons: This machine tangles, mangles and destroys clothes. Poor cleaning. See my review.
This machine does a very poor job of cleaning clothes. It is not energy efficient despite unfounded claims by others. The washing cycles are longer and you end up rewashing unclean or mildewed clothes. It twists, tangles and mangles clothes, shortening ...

Pros: Liked using the easy computer control panel- but that's it! Cons: pricey, twists and puts holes in clothes, too many to list read my review!
Well this is the first machine I paid over 800.00 for. And it was a BIG mistake. The problems started when I noticed a tiny hole here and there. At first I thought it couldn't be the washer, maybe just my imagination. But then I put a small canvas...

Pros: Does lite-soiled clothes well Cons: Can stain clothes
After using for about 20 loads the washer will, with fair consistency, create smudgey metallic-like gray stains on white clothing. Upon tearing the machine apart, this smudgey stuff was found inside the large rubber sealing washer at the bottom of the...

Pros: NONE!!! Cons: Destroys clothing! Leaves a white residue in creases of dark clothing.
I was all set to purchase a front loading washer & dryer because I wanted a set that was gentle on my laundry, especially sweaters. But the salesperson showed me this washer/dryer set and assured me this was the best thing on the market. He told me that...

Pros: Cleans whites well, uses less water, efficient, nice controls and dispensers Cons: Noisy, not as large as claimed, malfunctions too easily, expensive.
I have to admit that we only checked Consumer Reports before purchasing this machine. We should have checked epinions too. On paper this machine looks great, but in real world, everyday use this machine fails. I liked the fact that it uses less ...

Pros: None Cons: Doesnt clean the dirty items, and ruins fabric by tearing the fabric.
I bought this unit based on previous experience with whirlpool and sears, I wont make that mistake again. The calypso dryer is a great unit. I cannot how ever say the same about the washer. My wife and I purchased it from sears. We thought we liked the ...

Pros: None Cons: Spending a lot of money on a machine does not mean it is good.
Biggest piece of junk that I ever paid 900.00 for. I also bought the 3 year warranty for $150.00, but the Calypso decided not to break down until it expired. I manged to repair the washer the first time it wouldn't drain by hauling it outside, taking ...

Pros: Able to return the unit to Sears and exchange for a new front-loader. Cons: Many electronic & mechanical problems. Tears cloth. Eats up small socks through the upper rim.
Thanks to everyone who posted on this discussion board about your experiences with the Calypso washer. All the information was very helpful. We live in Northern California, in the San Francisco bay area. We purchased a Calypso at Sears in the ...
