Pros: friendly staff; good equipment Cons: paying for unneeded extra days
We’ve read quite a few terrible tales of U-Haul frustration and woe here on Epinions, but our experience with U-Haul was not bad at all. In fact, it was rather pleasant, but not without a couple glitches.
When we decided to move to the...

Pros: Makes doing it yourself easy and affordable Cons: customer service, long lines.
U HAUL moves from place to place and generation to generation! The first time I remember a UHAUL truck moving my family was when I was 7 years old and my family moved from Northumberland, New Hampshire to Hampton New Hampshire. I remember it vividly. ...

Pros: cheap! Cons: poor customer service; some trucks in bad shape; failure to fulfill reservations.
First, let me say that our family moves--a lot! Growing up, I went to 14 schools by the time I graduated high school. Since then, in the 3 years that my husband and I have been married, we have moved 3 more times. So I have quite a bit of experiencing in...

Pros: It was a life saver for me, close and easy to work with. Cons: I have no complains the move went smooth.
Greetings from sunny and hot Texas, I am slowly getting things in place. This move was so fast paced I am only now relaxing and enjoying my new home. Trying to find a mover in a mid-sized Iowa community only took two calls. The first call went to ...

Pros: price, they are everywhere Cons: trucks are getting old,
My parents moved in to the house my mom still lives in when I was a year old, so I never had the experience of moving while growing up. But my husband and I have been married for almost 14 years, and we’ve moved about a dozen times. Early moves...

Pros: Convenient; easy reservation Cons: Uncomfortable trucks; location
When my wife and I learned we were expecting a baby, our first thought was to our house. We knew we didn’t have the room to accommodate a baby at all so we searched frantically to find a new dwelling for our newest addition. Once that was accomplished ...

Pros: Trucks readily available, inexpensive daily rate Cons: A little dangerous if you have no experience driving large vehicles
Over the past weekend, I moved myself and my three children from a two-bedroom apartment into a house we just purchased last month.
I had every intention of doing this move without any professional help at all. My cousin lives a few hours...

Pros: cheaper than others, many dealers Cons: slow trucks, poor customer service
Moving is a real pain, regardless of how far you are going or how much furniture and belongings you have. In my last few moves I have been fortunate enough to have professional movers do all of the heavy lifting for me. However, the last move that I...

Pros: Low Rates, Comfortable Trucks Cons: Poor customers service.
I have move more times in the last 15 years, than I want to think about. Every time I think we are going to settle down and stay someplace we end up moving again mainly do to our employers. Here is some information that may prove useful if you find...

Pros: Cheaper for short moves, good trucks, reliable, more locations nearby Cons: more costs for not filling up gas tank and bringing truck back late
Over the years I and my family have used U-Haul almost exclusively for moving big loads or moving to a new home but I have used a couple of other moving companies including Penske ...

Pros: Inexpensive, reliable, do-it-yourself; packing supplies Cons: Not everyone knows how to move stuff without damaging it
Great for Local Moves
In the past, all of our moving has been done locally - in and around the Boston area. So we've had occasion to try several do-it-yourself movers - i.e., empty trucks.
Ryder was a bust. We reserved the...

Pros: Locations everywhere. Relatively inexpensive. Cons: There has been something broken on each rental occasion. No replacements available for broken vehicles -use as is!
Over the years my family keeps on going back to U-haul. About as often as some women give birth. That time interval must be what it takes to forget how truly painful the whole messy experience really is.
A Tale of Two Moves ...

Pros: Less expensive than hiring professional movers. Cons: The possibility of breaking your stuff is a lot higher.
I have some old Viking blood in my veins which became Scottish at one fork in my family tree and I have been pretty skimpy with spending money ever since. This especially applies to moving from one location to another.
I have moved every 4-5...

Pros: Easy to reserve, straightforward website, loading ramp on truck Cons: Scary experience, aging fleet of trucks, no lock
When my husband changed jobs this summer, we had to relocate. We rented a U-Haul, packed our pitiful belongings, and drove West. The experience was unforgettable ... and not in a good way. We liken driving a U-Haul truck to driving a ticking time ...
