Pros: spectacular pot of coffee, programmable, easy to use Cons: difficult to clean
I received this as a wedding gift and my first thought was 'I already have a coffee maker that works fine.'
After using this programmable grinder/maker, I will NEVER go back to a regular coffee maker. I program it to start grinding and brewing...

Pros: Makes a great cup of coffee Cons: not reliable and hard to clean
I am on my 4th Grind & Brew and now I give up. I bought one in 2000 and the grinder died. Received another for Xmas not realizing that the 1st was under warranty. This one dies 4 months later. Sent back 2 to Cuisinart
( I had to pay for...

Pros: Easier to use than a separate grinder and coffee maker Cons: Unreliable, and there's a better machine out there
The Cuisinart Automatic Grind & Brew DGB-300 Series Coffee Bar was originally purchased in May 1999 because of convenience. Although I also considered the Capresso unit, the Cuisinart was half the cost ($99 vs. $199). Although it was awkward to...

Pros: great coffee Cons: time-consuming
I loved this coffeemaker - made the best coffee yet and the grinder did not wake up the dead. It took up a lot of counter space, but it was stylish and I got it in navy blue which is not a color one usually finds so I could use it at parties. The...

High Maintenance & Low Durability
by efgarcia ,Apr 17 '04
Pros: Great tasting coffee Cons: Too much time spent cleaning & DRYING the unit. Unit broke after a year.
A great idea but you spend more time cleaning and drying the unit so you can grind & brew the coffee together than you would if you used a separate grinder. Also, my unit broke after a year and a half. I do confess that I have no complaints about the quality of coffee brewed.

1 Year with the Cuisinart DGB-300 and counting
by pk14 ,Dec 01 '03
Pros: Great tasting coffee! Attractive. Keeps coffee hot for four hours. Cons: Clean up is a daily chore. Replacement carafe is only available replacement part.
I've owned this machine for a little over 1 year now and it still does what I purchased it for - brew a great 10 cup pot of coffee. The brew-pause function (courtesy of the spring loaded plastic lever) has broken off, the aroma seal (clear plastic flap on the front of the carafe lid) has broken off, and I've had to replace the carafe once when it broke (my fault setting it down too quickly in the ceramic sink). Otherwise, it has been a Timex. Clean-up is a daily chore, however, all the dirty pieces go into the dish washer before leaving for work in the morning and are ready to be re-assembled in the coffee maker with fresh water, coffee filter, and whole beans for the next morning's automatic brewing. I never tried it using pre-ground coffee, nor have I messed with the variable coffee aroma knob (seems like more of a gimmick). Only reason to get a new machine is to get the brew pause function back. Choice between another DGB-300 and the new DGB-500 will be tough...

Plastic wears out
by betzyc ,Oct 15 '06
Pros: Easy, grinder is attached, quick, self clean Cons: Messy, plastic hinges wear out, didn't last a year
I've used this coffee maker almost daily for the past nine months or so (it was a Christmas gift certificate purchase) and it's worked great. It's a little messy, you have to clean it every time you use it, but you get used to it. The issue I have is that the top is spring-loaded so you have to push on it to get it to open. That's a lot of wear on the plastic hinge, which brings me to my next issue. One of the hinges has totally worn away and broken off, so I'm reduced to one hinge. It can't be replaced, so I'm just waiting for the other one to break (which it will soon because it's the one getting all of the pressure now). Then I'll have to get a new coffee maker. This time, I'll check the hinges! This would be a great machine, but having to replace it every year is just crazy not worth it.

Cuisinart DGB-300 Grind & Brew
by hoosierguy1990 ,Mar 19 '08
Pros: Makes the absolute best tasting coffee Cons: Cleaning it, and maybe the lid latch..just be careful with it!
This coffee maker makes the best coffee of ANY coffee maker I have ever owned - and I have tried a lot, even other Cuisinart models. I had my old DGB-300 tucked away in the basement because the latch on the lid broke, and have been through three other coffee makers since, ranging from $50 to $170. After my last coffee maker experiment, I dug this thing out, gave it a thorough cleaning, weighted the lid down, and let her go. Ahhhh. This thing still makes the best coffee ever. SO, I ordered a new one for $50 from Amazon.com, and will tuck the old one away once again for safe keeping.
Yes, cleaning the parts after each use is a pain...but it's not that bad, honestly. Coffee that good has to require some extra work! It is definitely worth it. Since this little baby doesn't have a charcoal filter, make sure you use filtered or bottled water. It's amazing how many people get bad tasting coffee because they use unfiltered water right out of the tap. Yuck!

Cuisinart Grinder/Coffeemaker more trouble than it's worth
by lyonjl ,Feb 21 '05
Pros: Grinds, makes coffee. Cons: Grinds only coarsely, must be cleaned constantly.
I finally tired of cleaning the entire machine every third batch of coffee. There are basic design flaws in the piston which opens the coffee drawer and eventually you will wind up with a countertop and floor full of grounds and coffee as I did. It is impossible to prevent old coffee buildup in the piston and the drawer will not open without force OR will not latch and will spew. Forget this one, keep looking.

Cuisinart coffee bar consumer nightmare
by kynurse ,Sep 16 '03
Pros: It has a clock and timer, when brewing is complete it will beep. Cons: Difficult to clean, such a hassle for a pot of coffee!
For those of you that have limited counter top area stay away from this one! It is extremely large! It is difficult to maneuver as the top must be raised in order to get to the parts and pour water into the reservoir. The pot is nice and has a nice design. other than that I was not impressed by the body. After using this machine 3 times the grinder stopped working. I could hear it making noise but acted as if it was locked up. After purchasing another brand my husband took this one apart and was amazed to find rust and coffee grinds inside of the grinder where it should have been air tight as to not allow the passing of water into the motor. This one is not worth the time, effort, nor the money unless you have the money to spare and don't know what to do with it and lots of time on your hands.

TOO Much work for a good cup of coffee
by klock3 ,Dec 27 '04
Pros: It comes in black Cons: TOO MANY TO LIST
I have owned other grinder coffee makers, and could not believe how much work this one is. Every part of the coffee maker has to be cleaned after each use. And I mean if you don't take a q-tip and clean out the grooves that holds the basket it will stick and you will have to pry it out. Also the basket that holds the beans sticks and I have had to get a screwdriver to pry it out. i have had to wash it so many times, now the printing is coming off the buttons and I have to guess what they are. Come on, for the price it should be a lot easier. I called tech support and they simply told me "Well this is a high maintenance item". That is way too much work for a cup of coffee. I owned a Melita before and it grinds and drips through the same basket. Only 1 thing to clean, and no q-tips required.

Pros: Makes great tasting coffee. Cons: Very loud, hard to clean, doesn't last.
Makes great coffee but extremely loud and hard to clean. You can forget about making coffee early in the morning with this thing unless you want to wake everyone up.

good but if one small part breaks.....
by brewy3200 ,Feb 16 '07
Pros: has worked reliably & makes good coffee Cons: my wife and I agree that one little part breaking stinks.
Love having fresh beans ground and brewed in the morning. Bought this a year or so ago after our separate grinder burned out. But, the other day the snap catch on the cover broke, so we are currently using tape to keep the cover closed so it will operate. Can't seem to easily find a replacement part online. It's just a little thing that snaps in to the lid. But all they have is carafes and such. I'm a handy guy and would like to just replace this little part, but it seems I will have to rig some kind of hasp to keep the lid shut. I hate to toss a perfectly good appliance just because of a little broken part.

Looks great but doesn't last
by swann72 ,Aug 25 '06
Pros: Looks great, makes a good pot of coffee. Cons: Doesn't hold up. No product support.Too tall. Takes up space. Time consuming to clean.
Worked great for us for 3 years, then the grinder seized up. A couple of weeks ago, electronic problems started cropping up and then it failed altogether. Called customer service and was told that without a receipt nothing could be done. Furthermore parts are not made, hence there was no service center to send it to. I've had far cheaper models last longer. You're paying for the name on this one. Makes good coffee, but I'm convinced good coffee is all in the bean. We've decided to go back to a cheaper, smaller maker, and use a separate electric grinder instead.
