Pros: Fabulous location, beautiful hotel, wonderful service and an amazing bar. Cons: The room could have had a Jacuzzi!
When my husband and I went to San Diego, we were lucky enough to be going for a conference and got the opportunity to stay at the Manchester Grand Hyatt.
As Jo mentions in her review of this same hotel, the Manchester Hyatt in San Diego is currently the tallest building in the city - 40 floors. Since her review, they have nearly finished the second 40-story tower, and as I write this review looking out...
Pros: Vast, opulent, breathtaking, central to downtown Cons: You might feel overwhelmed. Can be expensive
Forsaking my usual Floridian haunts temporarily, I made two trips to San Diego and Southern California in the Autumn of 2006. As the second visit was part conference and part vacation we thought that we would 'push the boat out ' and stay at the ...
Pros: Location, views, rooms, linens, staff. Cons: No indoor pool, icky hot tub, felt like we had to be dressed up.
We stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt for the first 2 nights of our honeymoon last week (partially due to the reviews from this site). As mentioned before the hotel now has 2 towers and share a common beautiful lobby. There is a restaurant at the top ...
Pros: Location! Seaport Village + Gaslamp Quarter provide eating options. New pool area is nice. Cons: Depending on vagaries of conferences going on, you could feel like uninvited guest at times.
I'll give the Manchester Grand Hyatt a qualified recommendation. I won't duplicate the very detailed reviews others have already given. I will provide some updates + some cautions & tips. UPDATES: The second tower is now completed - I had a room on ...
Pros: Excellent location, nice pool, decent restaurants, generally good service Cons: small rooms, poor soundproofing, pricey breakfast buffet/restaurants, watch out for overbilling
Spent 6 nights at the Manchester Grand Hyatt with my wife and daughter. The Good: Excellent location - close to Seaport Village, Gaslamp Quarter, convention center, PETCO Park, USS Midway, public transportation, etc. - gorgeous lobby - fast ...
Pros: Location, Appearance Cons: Bad Customer Service, Expensive (room rate, parking, and Internet access are all pricey)
I've stayed at this hotel twice in the past year. Once in December and once in July. December stays are nice because it is not as busy as it was in July. To start with, the room amenities met with my standard Hyatt expectations (hair dryer, coffee ...
I stayed there during a computer (SIGGRAPH) convention in 2007, their Wi-fi was the worst I have experienced. When checking in there was a mess up with my room so I had to come later that night to get my room. I usually sleep like the dead but as the hotel is located between the bay and a trolley stop, surrounding noise kept me up all night for 5 nights. The convention I paid a lot of money to see flying from Japan became worthless because of my sleepless week in San Diego's worst hotel. There should have been double layered glass (at least) to keep out the noise. When I checked out they could not put the weeks stay on the mileage that I requested. I had not ordered a mini-bar (which was locked anyway) but they tried to charge me for it. I filled out a complaint card, but never got any response. In fact I now refuse to stay in any Hyatt because of this experience.
Pros: Location, location, location Cons: The high-speed internet fee, freight train noise, slow check-in/out
This "Grand Hyatt" has a very impressive appearance due to a recent renovation. The lobby, restaurants, shops and rooms are nicely done. There are only two issues that I had with the hotel during my stay:
1. The high-speed internet access fee in the room was $9.95 per 24 hours. That's nearly $300 per month (I pay on $50 per month at home). Way too pricey.
2. I opened my window to enjoy the fresh air and even left it open when I went to bed. Unfortunately, I didn't know about the freight trains that run past the hotel all night long -- and the train whistles that blow at each intersection. It definitely was loud and I would encourage others to run the A/C or room fan to block out this noise. To be fair, I didn't hear any noise from the other rooms -- just at the street level (25 floors down).
Other than that, it's a nice hotel in a great location.
