Pros: friendly service, funky wallpaper and sumptuous fabrics can make up for tiny rooms Cons: small rooms; hallways have striped wallpaper that makes you a little dizzy
Hotel Allegro is a small [FN1] hotel located in the heart of downtown Chicago (the Loop). Renovated and revamped about three years ago, it is one of three boutique hotels in Chicago run by the Kimpton Group, each with a different "theme,"...
Pros: Style, comfort, distinction, without too much attitude. Cons: Cozy but cramped rooms; no closet and internal soundproofing problems.
KIMPTON IN CONTEXT Four members of the epinions community liked the Allegro in 2001, and in September, 2004 it is still a fun place to stay in Chicago: with a few reservations. For those of us bored with the sameness of the big chains, the San ...
Pros: Downtown location conveniently located. Check-in lounge area is attractive. Cons: Utterly incompetent reservations staff. Unsafe fire escape routes. Broken deadbolt locks.
The next time I want to spend $200 a night to stay in downtown Chicago, I'm going to get a room for $80 somewhere 10 miles out on the Eisenhower Expressway and then drink the other $120 in the hotel bar. I should've known this was going to be a bad ...
Pros: Location, price, decor Cons: Small rooms, treated like bums when we offered a cash deposit.
My husband and I wanted a short weekend away before number 3 graced us with his presence for our anniversary.. Chicago is only an hour by plane or four by car so it was the perfect retreat for a quiet weekend without children. We were looking for ...
Pros: Good value, funky decor, Loop location, surprisingly quiet at night Cons: Energy usage and phone charges, small rooms, some might find it too "decorated"
Because I have family I could be staying with when I visit Chicago, I feel weird about spending a lot of money for lodging there -- quite irrationally, since I'd much rather stay in a hotel than someone's guestroom, but somehow it seems like a not...
Pros: Newly redecorated, bright hip rooms Cons: Rooms a bit on the small side, but it is downtown Chicago, after all.
Let me start by saying: I have not actually stayed at the Allegro. Why the heck is she writing an opinion, you ask. Good question. When I was planning my wedding in Chicago, I knew we would have a lot of out of town visitors, as neither my husband...
Pros: Trendy, great location (not dark/scary) near theatres and shopping, friendly staff, clean rooms, affordable! Cons: bathrooms not big enough if you require a big bathroom.
I live in Illinois and stay in hotels in Chicago often. Only for pleasure, so I cant speak of the business aspects of the hotel. The Hotel Allegro website is what drew me into their hotel in the first place. The colors of the interior were bright ...
This was our first stay at this particular hotel in Chicago. This was also our first stay in the Loop near the theater district. What a great hotel. Aside from the elevators being PAINFULLY slow due to repairs, our stay at Hotel Allegro was most ...
Pros: Watch the cruise ships pull out of the harbor at sunset. It's absolutely breathtaking. Cons: Not everyone is on the same page. I called the information center the misinformation center.
We just got back from 4 nites/4 days at the Frenchman's Reef & we were so happy with everything. First of all, St Thomas is absolutely beautiful. Secondly, the weather was fantastic. (Forget weatherchannel.com... everyday the forecast is some showers & ...
Pros: Fun atmosphere, convenient location, a lot available for a fee. Cons: watch the packages, they may not be worth it.
My husband and I just spent the weekend at the Hotel Allegro and we had a great hotel experience. The bed was probably the most comfortable that either of us had ever slept in (though the room itself is a little small) and the decor was fun, though the...
My first stay at this hotel in Chicago was great on many fronts. First of all it was 1 block from the office I was visiting. The price was reasonable for the downtown area.
I had checked it on the Internet to see what people have said, and...
Pros: Free wireless internet, friendly staff, fun atmosphere Cons: Rather small room
We spent four nights in August 2004 at the Hotel Allegro. We chose the hotel because of its central location in the theatre district of Chicago (very close to two El stations, and a 5-10 minute walk from the excellent Millennium Park) and for its low prices - c. $100 per night incl. tax. Our room was quite small (larger ones were available, but we checked in late) but perfectly pleasant, with fun touches such as bright pink walls and a CD player. It was also pleasantly quiet, despite being located opposite the elevators and the ice machine room. The hotel offers free wireless internet in all areas, including all guestrooms, and has a complimentary wine hour from 5-6 pm in the spacious lobby, which features velvet couches, candles and an open fire. The hotel also has a lively bar and a good Italian restaurant. All the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful. All in all, we were very happy with our stay at the Allegro, and would recommend it to anyone.
Worst hotel experience ever! by drewbyk ,Mar 20 '07
Pros: Kimpton's fun atmosphere. Cons: Service was very unaccommodating and property is in dire need of updating.
Was sent here because a friend works with Kimpton (the managing group). We were reserved in a Jacuzzi Suite, but checked in to a suite that had NO JACUZZI. I called down to the front desk, but unfortunately they overbooked like most hotels and they told me that I had the last suite. Also, the L train ran right by my window so I had that noise to deal with every 45 seconds! What really upset me is that fact that they didn't even offer me a sincere apology or try to accommodate me in any way... I love Kimpton hotels, but this property was run down and needs a more knowledgeable staff.
Hotel Allegro - Chicago - Worth the trip by roomsrus ,Aug 15 '06
Pros: Decor', quick check in, good location Cons: can be expensive
If you are looking for something different in a hotel room, the Allegro may be a place you want to visit. The rooms have personality, go figure, a hotel with personality! The decorator had a good time giving this facility some color, wonderful beds, classic drapes and fun wall covering. Not your typical hotel room or hotel as a whole.
It's nice to travel to someplace that doesn't look just like the last room you stayed in. You actually can remember that you are in Chicago instead of the last town you were in where the room looked just like the room you were in the night before.
It is in a great location to go to the theater, out for dinner or for meetings in downtown Chicago.
