American Scientist – Not Just For the Sigma Xi Honor Society

by colleenmf Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Aug 23 '01
Pros: Technical information that is not watered down.
Cons: Technical information that is not watered down.
When my husband was invited to join Sigma Xi, the honor society for research scientists and engineers, I didn’t think that I would get any personal benefit from his membership. Then one day he came home with a slick magazine called American...

by benho , Apr 18 '01
Pros: Fills nice niche for the scientifically educated non-expert
Cons: Not quite up to the perhaps herculean task of satisifying everyone
As a graduate from MIT in engineering, economics and math, I have always had a problem with scientific reporting. Too often, reporting especially in the areas of math and physics and even biology are far too simplified. They often reveal some neat new...

Not impressed

by tfinnegan , Sep 26 '00
Pros: Some interesting articles, well respected contributors
Cons: lack of variety, bio articles aren't technical enough
So I became a member of Sigma Xi a little bit over a year ago. I found this in itself to be quite an honor, since there were many Nobel Prize winning scientists that were members. I was also quite excited to receive their magazine, American Scientist....
