Pros: Wide variety of musical styles, tries to be inclusive Cons: Advertising may limit value of equipment reviews
Guitar Player Magazine I’ve been reading Guitar Player off and on since its early days, when it was the only game in town as far as guitar information was concerned, until today where there is competition, yet, for the serious musician, ...
Pros: Great content for all levels of guitarists... Cons: ....but a horrible cover price. Buy a subscription.
I never looked like Slash, Peter Frampton or Chuck Berry so I shouldn't have been very surprised when a casual friend exclaimed one day, "You play guitar?" Hidden behind his question was statement, "You look like my Dad's insurance agent. I'm ...
Pros: Informative articles and excellent gear reviews Cons: Broad focus of subjects may mean no focus for some readers
Guitar Player is a 190 or so page monthly mag that is of interest to amateur and professional guitarists, although the emphasis is generally for rockers. Each copy is $5.95, but a one-year subscription is a bargain at $19.00--less than two bucks ...
Pros: Comprehensive Cross Genre Content Cons: Doesn’t Always Hit The Mark
It has often been said that we as Americans live to work. We are quite wound up, in our careers and jobs with scant little time to kick back and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Personally, I believe your performance on the job is largely a result of how ...
Pros: Not too much Cons: Articles are not very original, guitar/amp reviews are too positive
Whenever I visit a Borders I usually flip through a few guitar magazines. I have been playing for quite some time and I enjoy reading about new gear and such. However, I find that Guitar Player makes for the most boring reads. The articles often offer...
Pros: Lots of excellent articles on a variety of different artists Cons: Ads...who likes 'em?, not many transcriptions
I purchased "Guitar Player" through a magazine drive my sister had been participating in at school. I get 12 issues for the great price of $15.00! If anyone's having any magazine drives near you, look into it! There are those subscription cards...
Pros: A Great , Mature guitar magazine for real guitarist Cons: None.
There are many music magazines on the market, especially ones geared just to guitarist. Being a guitarist for 20 years or more, there has been one guitar magazine that has been with me from my beginning. That fabulous mag would of course be GUITAR PLAYER...
Pros: It's informative, full-color, a lot of reviews, and doesn't insult your intelligence. Cons: Shorter than Gtr World, less tabs
I really ought to rate this only in comparison with its closest competitor, Guitar World. Guitar World has really become a pop metal magazine, wtih covers consistently featuring Limp Bizkit, Korn, Kid Rock, and other annoying 7-string or talentless...
Pros: PACKED full of articles, music theory and lessons Cons: No song transcriptions, sometimes TOO many articles :)
Guitar Player magazine is one of, if not THE, oldest guitar magazines in print, and they certainly do a good job of packing each issue full of articles. For some reason, however, the magazine simply does not seem to hold my attention like some of...
Guitar Player is the only guitar mag that I subscribe to and it is for good reason. Every month I look forward to the valuable lessons, that are in depth and on great topics. For instance, when last months issue came, I found a 12 page lesson on blues...
Pros: Gear reviews, lessons Cons: Occasional lame artist feature
I've subscribed to Guitar Player for over ten years and while it has had its ups and downs, it's still the only Guitar mag that matters. The gear reviews are bountiful, well written, and accurate. The lessons are diverse in style and run the gamut from...
Pros: Solid writing and reporting, comprehensive coverage, trustworthy. Cons: A little bland, not always as critical as it could be.
Guitar Player is the only mainstream guitar magazine left that appeals to anyone with an open mind. The others have either gone out of business or, like Guitar World, devolved into hype-driven fan mags with gear reviews obviously paid for by...
Guitar Player isn't the best guitar mag I have seen, I mean I subscribe to Guitar Worlds, Acoustic Magazine and that is a lot better , it is not just because it is all acoustic, they give you songs that really great, those songs are from today and...
The Bible for Guitarist re-written by charles59 ,May 28 '06
Pros: Great pictures of new and vintage guitars, as well as very good guitar tech articles. Cons: Caters to ages 11-26.Not much more.
What once was the "Bible" for guitarist, now seems to be a dog and pony show for a bunch of fast lick, pedal and stomp box users.Showing only the kids who buy this garbage that speed and flash, not sound or individuality are important. What happened to this magazine that once featured various artist such as Dickey Betts,Les Paul,Chet, Beck and a host of others.Have we fallen victim to the likes of the NBA where the youngsters have no respect for the ones who started it all.Could these new comers even play a guitar if it was just the guitar, cord and a amp. Or better yet an acoustic and mic. I don't think so. Seems to me that pedals and other gadgets are a means to cover up bad notes and sometimes out of tune guitars.I for one am disappointed in this magazine.
Guitar Player magazine is written for serious guitarists who want to become better, more informed players. Each issue of Guitar Player magazine is fie...More at Magazines.com
