Pros: acting, storyline, characters, casting, setting Cons: That it could be real
This movie is the type that makes you stop and think for a minute. The kind that makes you wonder if it could have been true. You can not help but think to yourself that there could be a lot of truth in the fictional movie that has been placed in front ...
Daveis a kind of updated “The Prince and the Pauper” tale with a local Temp Agency manager being called in by the government to act as a Presidential look-alike for a short assignment. Just walk to the limo, wave, get in, and everything’s ...
Pros: hilarious, heartwarming, interesting plot, Kevin Kline Cons: apparently this film is too liberal
I am one of those unfortunate people who watch their favorite movie a thousand times, then never watch it again because they have the whole thing memorized. Dave is one such movie. Because of this I would probably never have reviewed it --I ...
Pros: funny movie about politics that is actually inspiring Cons: unrelenting idealism could turn some people off
In honor of the upcoming election, I have been watching and then reviewing one politically-themed movie each week. This week I decided on Dave, a 1993 comedy featuring Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver.
Pros: fun 'feel good' movie with a happy ending. Cons: far fetched but it's a fairy tale so lighten up!!
We could never have a president who so blatantly fools around and abuses his privileges. Well maybe we could. But we'd never have high official participate in a conspiracy to fool the public. Oh yeah, that too. How about a President so shallow he'd visit...
Pros: romance comedy politics in one package Cons: could never happen... but would love to see it
I have watched Dave several times, and I know I am going to see it again. Soon.
The Douglas Adams series, The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, includes two interesting comments about power, as embodied in the person of the Galactic...
Pros: cast, story, directing Cons: nothing to speak of
It's been said that "Dave" is derivative of "Moon Over Parador", which it is, but it really goes much further back than that. All the way back to "Prince and the Pauper" to be precise. The story of a common man acting as...
Pros: Very funny, some great ideas on how Government should be run Cons: Unfortunately is only fantasy
Imagine what you would do if you replaced the President.
Dave, played by Kevin Kline, is an employment councilor that happens to bear a fair resemblance to the President, also played by Kevin Kline. Because of this he often impersonates the...
Pros: Great movie, Great story, Great acting Cons: None
This movie is so great that I don't know if there is enough that I can say about this one. Plot President Bill Mitchell is a typical politician. He looks after only those that are powerful and ignores most of the platforms that he got ...
Pros: great acting and script Cons: not long enough!!
This movie was excellant!
The beginning was very humorous and interesting. As the "president" gets harder and harder to keep a secret, the acting becomes more and more superior.
The script for "Dave" is not only extremely...
Pros: Great comedy and touching. Kevin Kline is super! Cons: Not really believable
Why aren't there more movies like this? It's not Airforce One and it's not The American President, Dave is a light hearted, non-violent film that (except for one scene where sex is suggested but not exactly seen) is perfect for any aged...
Pros: light hearted yet interesting take on the whole white house thing Cons: a little far fetched and plays on conventional wisdom, but hey- it's a movie
This is the story of a man who is asked to double as the president, only to find himself assuming the role when the man himself has a serious stroke. A clever and light hearted look at being behind the scenes of the white house. A few implicit lessons...
Pros: A great feel good romantic comedy Cons: The theme has been used before
It's a story line that's been done before (eg. The Prince & the Pauper, The Man in the Iron Mask), but never with such charm and good humour as this.
Good guy presidential lookalike Dave gets thrust into being a stand-in for the number one job, and of course does it better than the real president and does a better job of being the first lady's husband too.
There are some fun scenes, notably when the first lady confronts Dave in the shower, and when the two of them try to persuade the policeman that they are really both stand-ins. An excellent performance from Kevin Kline in the roles of Dave and the president, and a great feel good ending.
The movie makes you think, too, about how we would all like politicians to be, and how the country should be run.
Dave Kovic is asked to portray President Bill Mitchell -- for real -- when the president falls into a coma. Nobody expected Dave (as Bill) to become s...More at HotMovieSale.com
