Pros: Excellent Plot. Great Costumes.
Cons: A little slow at the beginning.
I watched this movie on video for the first time today. I wanted to see it while it was in the theater, but never got the chance. I'm glad I took the time to rent it, and wish I had been able to see it on the big screen. I am certain that the battle...

Pros: Mel Gibson, the surprisingly decent direction from Roland Emmerich
Cons: the script is a bit predictable and relies on schmaltz and sentimentality too often

Rating: USA: R

It’s almost inevitable that Mel Gibson’s new film, The Patriot , will be compared to his 1995 epic...

The Patriot: Braveheart meets Cornwallis at Camden and Cowpens!

by mkp51 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Mar 31 '01
Pros: Great acting; excellent script; lots of action.
Cons: Hey... has anybody seen an original idea around here?!
Americans have always loved watching their wars and war heroes on the silver screen. How many of us have been thrilled by great war films like: Sergeant York (1940); The Sands of Iwo Jima (1949); The Red Badge of Courage (1951);...

When Vengeance and Cruelty Win Out...The Patriot

by kld718 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Sep 02 '02
Pros: emotional, actors, history
Cons: not all factual, violent
The Patriot...the movie that got rave reviews from everyone that I knew. Perhaps because it was an emotional war movie, bringing back the hardness of death, defeat, and victory in our history. Maybe it was Mel Gibson. Who knows...but I knew I had...

Opens your eyes to the birth of freedom in early America

by mrssmoopy Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 18 '00
Pros: Incredibly touching movie that gives you the true picture of the Revolutionary War
Cons: Extremely realistic war scenes - NOT FOR YOU VIEWERS OR THOSE WITH WEAK CONSTITUTIONS
Add Mel Gibson's roles together: Braveheart's Fury, The Bounty's desire for freedom, and Revolutionary War's historical story line, and you have the makings for Patriot.

This Revolutionary war movie is directed by Roland Emmerich, known for...

American History in Comic Book Form

by scott29 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Nov 16 '00
Pros: Gibson is solid, Jason Isaacs steals the show and let's not forget about the gory battle scenes!
Cons: It's the history of America's birth seen through the eyes of a super-hero.
If historical accuracy isn't of paramount importance to you, and you don't mind a little corn, then The Patriot is the epic for you. It has all the requirements of the standard Hollywood action epic: noble heroes, evil villains, beautiful damsels...

Freedom Always Comes with a Price

by ishtarskye , Jun 28 '00
Pros: the entire film is wonderful: it has a great cast, the plot is intriguing, the acting is believable, the scenery is breath-taking, etc.
Cons: it's a bit slow in the beginning, but it picks up after about 15 minutes; the passing of time isn't really defined, before you know it 2 years have passed but there's nothing to mark the difference in timelines
The Patriot has definitely earned its way into my personal list of great epic movies. In order to make my list, a movie has to possess not just a great plot and story, but believable acting and above all it must keep my interest. I was kind...

Mel Gibson's American "Freeedom!"

by Grouch Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Oct 31 '00
Pros: Nobody runs in slow-motion better than Mel Gibson
Cons: Nobody delivers blockbuster bombast like Roland ("Godzilla") Emmerich
The Patriot—starring a ponytail-sporting, musket-toting, rebel-yelling Mel Gibson—is a primer for History Through the Hollywood Lens:

Mel stands up during a legislative session with founding fathers in 1776 and gives a passionate (but...
