Pros: Beautiful, peaceful setting Cons: Look out for poison ivy
We live only a half hour away from Roman Nose State Park, which is located near Watonga, Ok. We like to go there frequently during the summer, sometimes just for an afternoon or other times, we camp for a few days. It is a beautiful place to just relax...

Pros: Great trails, canyons and small lakes, good for beginner paddlers and trout fishing Cons: Lodge needs better upkeep.

Fall Visit to Roman Nose
by shmcadoo ,Nov 07 '05
Pros: Golf course, scenic canyons, fishing, and of course Trails! Cons: N/A
My family and I love to visit any recreational area that can be accessed in three hours or less. Our choice for this weekend was Roman Nose State Park. One of our practices before visiting a location is to read up on it's history. Roman Nose does not lack in this area. The natural and cultural history of this destination provides a nice look into Oklahoma history, as well as, the unique geological features of the area.
Our Fall visit provided access to solitary walks through the wonderful trails of the park. These trails provide access to several beautiful springs. Most people find the springs in the short trail, however, see if you find the hidden cave trail that feeds the north end of the lake. It is quite amazing!
We stayed in our RV during this trip and all facilities were appropriate for a typical state park. I would recommend that if you anticipate visiting Roman Nose during a peak time call ahead or arrive as early as you can due to the smaller size of the park. At the very least, do not show up after dark!
