New G5's with dual 2.5 processors are fast...

by fatta , Nov 02 '04
Pros: Speed, beauty, ease of installation.
Cons: Price, minimal USB 2 ports
I recently purchased this computer for work in order to perform complex image processing analyses which can take hours or days at a time. This was previously done using PC's running Redhat. The configuration on this G5 was the dual 2.5 processors, 4 GB ...

Very, Very, VERY, fast. Quiet, well designed.

by ssamaha , Oct 24 '04
Pros: OS X (unix rock solid stability), PPC970FX CPU's, 64 bit future, system bandwidth, design/quality
Cons: Price is high. (that's pretty much it)
This review will evolve as my experience with this Mac evolves. I am coming from a Dual 500 G4, and a PB G4 1.0GHz so the performance leap has been quite impressive. Having said that, I have been playing around with a dual 2.0 also at a friends place ...

Now What?

by fwarren94551 , Dec 12 '04
Pros: Fast, elegant, superb design
Cons: Pricey yet for its performance. Mostly justified in pro applications.
When Jobs introduced this machine two years ago, he promised 3 Gigahertz. It's only at 2.7 now, and 3 will probably never get here; Jobs has announced barely two weeks ago that all newly designed systems will use, gasp, Intel processors. Well, this ...

odd thing
by phudsonmd ,Aug 08 '05
Pros: fast and it is a mac
Cons: noisy, poorly made
I have a 2.7 G5 dual , my second (the first was the 2G) and this is much more noisy and within 48 hours after I have put all my material on the hard drive the CD drive jams. I need to work on this and cannot afford to not have it for the week or two of service so have to use a pencil to wedge open the flap so the draw can come out. Yes it is fast but hardly noticeably more than my earlier model. Not enough USB and firewire outlets

These are dropping like flies after 3-4 years
by cdfox ,Jan 25 '09
Pros: Very fast, great graphics, beautiful design.
Cons: Processors and logic boards are failing after 3-4 years on this VERY expensive machine.
This was a great computer until it died.  These machines are dropping dead all over the country and Apple won't do anything about it.  Don't go near any liquid cooled G5 machines with a ten foot pole!

Hundreds of machines have failed in the last few months.  Check these links before you buy.

On Apple Discussions board seach for G5 freezes.  On MacWorld Forums seach for Power Mac logic board failure.

Power Mac G5 not all that
by colombianito ,Jul 24 '05
Pros: Good speed, stable OS
Cons: our superdrive broke after one single use
when we first opened the box we were all excited , we set up the pc and that was that.... I had never seen such an amazing desktop with such speed.... i would have to say that this was the best computer my family had ever purchased.... we used it only one day and then my family left on vacation for 2 months..... no one had used the computer, and when they get back the superdrive stops working......how could this be ?
we called up the store were we bought it and they said it was not their responsibility anymore. My dad was so angry. then he contacted apple and nothing was ever done, no solution was given to us..... this is why i have to say now that apple really should have better service towards the products.... how could a superdrive break after one day of use, it makes no sense, i would have to say that Me and my family would never buy an apple computer or recommend anyone to buy one ever again....

Say hello to Dell Destroyer
by crazygood ,Jan 20 '05
Pros: Liquid internal cooling system. Wicked Fast
Cons: none
Simply unbelievable.
Dual Processors that make speed nothing. OS X the most advanced operating system in the world. A LOT better than that dell you got for 400$. No comparison at all. Apple just ripped it.

I Give this product a Thumbs up.
