Pros: None - There is nothing here you can't get elsewhere, cheaper & better. Cons: Very poor quality, many bugs, not helpful to non-accountants; a loss-leader for fee services.
I was a long-time TurboTax user, but Ill never buy Intuit products again after they snuck spyware onto my computer. As Donald Trump said in The Apprentice, Once someone betrays you, you can never believe theyll go back to being loyal to ...
Pros: None that I can think of Cons: Too quirky. Bad tech support. Pricey E-filing.
This is the last time I will use TaxCut. I bought TaxCut last year because TurboTax cost $10 more and had a lot of bells and whistles I didn’t need. I didn’t really have any problems with TaxCut last year. This year was a whole different story. It is ...
Pros: Only consumer tax software that supports Form 1065 Cons: Everything else - this software is awful
I use Tax Cut for only 1 reason - TurboTax does not support Form 1065 - Business Partnerships. Before the business, I was a satisfied TurboTax user. My partner and I are contemplating restructuring the business because doing taxes for a partnership is ...
Pros: Quick, has all the forms you need in one place Cons: cost, bugs, compatibility, flexibility
Here's my experience. Make your own judgement. 1. You pay for it, but then you have to pay again to file online. Filing online is free if you go through certain sites. Here's the kicker, though: they don't tell you it'll cost money until you ...
Pros: Very few. Given the errors in the program, I'd strongly recommend buyers steer clear. Cons: Worst Tax Program I've seen. Buggy, errors, clumsy interface. You MUST double check your return.
This is a program that is likely to get you audited. Or at least looked at by the IRS. I haven't tried TurboTax, but if that doesn't work for you, don't buy TaxCut. Do the math, or run to a professional. This program spells trouble. There are bugs. ...
Pros: No intrusive copy protection
Most forms supported Cons: Misleading forms and missing instructions.
Does not handle improvement depreciation for Schedule C home office.
If your return is at all complex, be very careful with taxcut. The forms they show you on the screen are not the real IRS forms and are missing some of the instructions. This can cause errors and certainly caused me a headache with form 8615. The ...
Taxcut does not make the cut. by justkeeptrying ,Mar 12 '05
Pros: Exchange 10 dollar cash savings (vs TurboTax) for hundreds in aggravation using TaxCut. Cons: Everything else.
I have used TurboTax for years; this year I tried Taxcut and never will use it again. It is not friendly, I would have had an easier time just using the federal forms. I spent 20 minutes efiling, then informed I had to update, then had to spend another 20 minutes doing it all again. I had to correct errors because the fields I was required to fill in were too long for the Fed to accept. Why not let that be known at the time of entry? The DeductionPro program does not interface well (print it off then type the data into taxcut)? Do yourself a favor and try or stay with TurboTax.
crashes and looses data by brianpbarnes ,Apr 15 '06
Pros: cheap Cons: Untrustworthy. Destroys all data. Can not do e-file without crashing. Avoid like the plague!
Simple interview. As soon as it took my credit card number and attempted to transmit the return to the IRS, it crashed my machine. Rebooting and restarting the program and attempting to e-file again, it suddenly fund 15 errors it had not found before. Looking at a few forms, each was 100% blank. All of my data had been destroyed. Double clicking on the saved data file, it again came up blank. All of my information is permanently lost.
H&R Block TaxCut Deluxe for 2004 ( by ssandim ,Apr 09 '07
Pros: None Cons: I will never use H&R tax cut again.
I had used H&R Block TaxCut (with e-filing) the on line version last year, and the year before, finding them easy to use. NOT the 2006 TaxCut Delux (with e-filing). It was difficult to navagate through the screens.
The 'Help' function was NOT helpful. The program is loaded with BUGS. H&R Block did refund the money I'd paid for the program... but the refund didn't cover the total aggravation and frustration that I went through using their program to file my taxes. Not to mention that the final program bug I discovered was that the program calculated my State Income Tax incorrectly. When my refund came in instead of a direct deposit, the State sent me a check, and the check amount was lower then was shown on TaxCut. When I contacted the State Franchise Tax Board, they explained what and where the error was (with TaxCut).
Pros: Question-and-answer format Cons: Confusing, help system is no help
TaxCut enables you to cut down the number of hours you have to spend on tax prep, but its confusing instructions often leave you frustrated. I find the free TaxAct (taxact.com) actually more user-friendly and more flexible when you want to enter information on the forms yourself.
BEWARE of their online 'store' by briann288 ,Mar 06 '05
Pros: Works as advertised Cons: Online 'store' is terrible
Although the actual Tax Cut program works as advertised, (really no difference than Turbo Tax which I used last year), BEWARE of the links to their online 'store' which the user is directed to for downloading the state tax program or to E-file. The interface is terrible, and you can easily give your credit card number, be charged, but then not be able to download the product. I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to get my $30 back after they double charged me.
Turbo Tax' interface seems much smoother, and I will definitely not use tax cut next year.
TaxCut should be called TaxHIKE! by masticol ,Jan 11 '05
Pros: None Cons: Buggy, lousy support, total cost of ownership was in the thousands for me.
Last year, a bug in TaxCut caused by W2 to be entered twice in an e-filed return. Instead of getting a healthy refund, the IRS thought I owed them several thousand dollars in back taxes, penalty, and interest. Speaking of interest, HR Block showed NO interest in helping me with the problem that their bugware caused. It took me several months, several nasty letters from the IRS, and a long stream additional forms (not supported by TaxCut) to get the TaxCut problems straightened out.
I'm giving this product one star only because I can't give it zero. I heartily advise you to do whatever you need to do to avoid this product and this company. Use TurboTax, calculate by hand, or hire a CPA, but do NOT trust TaxCut.
They DON'T Honor Their Rebate Commitment by speed1961 ,Aug 25 '05
Pros: A name you know; too bad you can't trust Cons: They don't honor their rebate obligations
If you want to buy this software because you like the company, fine. PLEASE don't buy this product because it is cheaper than competitor's products, and especially if they offer deep discounts because of a mail-in rebate. I filled in the forms to the letter-of-the-law, doing exactly what was requested to receive a rebate. I was diligent in sending in the product carton flaps containing the bar codes along with original receipts from the store where I bought the product. I performed these actions for both the State and the Federal software. I carefully sealed both envelopes and sent it to the correct address. (Let's assume for a moment that being an educated mid-level manager means that I'm not a total idiot and that I followed the procedures correctly) In both cases, I received a letter from the manufacturer refusing my rebate because they claim to have not received the bar-coded flaps. If this had happened once, I could understand that something happened. The fact that it happened twice stinks of a scam. They never intended to honor their rebate obligations. Steer CLEAR of this software!
