Pros: Compact size, 5 megapixels, ease of use, and lots of creative photography options
Cons: Squinty optical viewfinder, image noise unacceptable at highest ISO setting
The S60 provides almost the same level of creative capability (advanced features, outstanding image quality, and lots of user input) as Canons superb G4, but its smaller, lighter, cheaper, and easier to use. Its a worthy successor to the ...
Pros: Low price, sharp photos, features and manual control, well-built, uses cheap CF media, wide angle Cons: Noise at ISO 400, chromatic aberration at wide angle
Although the Canon PowerShot S60 currently sells for $260+, I was able to get it for $218. And I am very glad I did get it. The S60 has many features and performance aspects that I want in a compact and sturdy body. One of the features I always like ...
Pros: Small, portable, packed with features, Canon quality. Cons: AutoFocus is frustratingly flaky sometimes.
I've owned my Canon Digital Rebel for just over a year now and I love it. There's only one problem that I have with it - it's not a simple, small, point-and-shoot style camera. Not that there's anything wrong with ...
Pros: True wideangle 28mm lens, improved ergonomics, fantastic image quality Cons: No hot shoe, slow lens
*At the time I wrote this review, Canon had yet to introduce the 7 megapixel S70 and G6. Now that the S70 and G6 are available, however, the S60 moves from the top of Canon's compact line down to the mid-range model. Here is my initial review, with an ...
Pros: Canon quality, and many professional settings and features. Cons: Again the complex sliding door of troubles are afoot!
A Cannon Heavyweight! The S60 is a heavyweight in photography quality. But the heavyweight is in quality, and weight. This is one of the more weighty compact cameras. Additionally it is another in the sliding door camp - a feature I have found ...
Pros: Wide angle. Optical viewfinder. Superb image quality. Sensor is 20% larger than most digicams. Cons: Slow start up, zoom, focus, and playback. Short battery life. ISO hard to set manually.
It's a good thing babies look cute, because otherwise very few people would put up with the little crying, temperamental suckers. With this camera, I have a very similar reaction. It's a good thing it takes beautiful wide-angle pictures, because ...
Pros: 640x400 video, super high quality pictures, wide-angle lens, and ability to manually focus. Cons: 30 seconds for high quality video, poor night time pictures, and focusing is slow.
I have been using this camera for the past month and I'm very pleased with the pictures. The great things about this camera is the 640x400 video, super high quality pictures, wide-angle lens, and ability to manually focus. Poor things are only 30 ...
Pros: Many features. User friendly Cons: Zoom clarity not great. Would like a smaller body style
I upgraded from my older PowerShot to the S60 model last year. I've been extremely happy with the quality of photos, the features and usability of this camera. I would have preferred a more advanced zoom and still have trouble white balancing, but otherwise have been extremely happy with the functionality of this camera.
Good Camera but could be better by cafukahn ,Jan 08 '05
Pros: Good Picture Quality, Great Wide Angle Lens, Cheap Compact Flash Memory, Stitch mode is nice Cons: Proprietary Battery. Slow shot to shot times, Cover is On-Off Switch
I had this Camera for 3 weeks. I really liked the wide-angle lens and that it used cheap Compact Flash. I liked the solid feel of the camera. The pictures where very good However the shot to shot times were very slow, even using Sandisk Ultra II memory. I really disliked having a proprietary battery. I like cameras where I can use Alkalines if I'm in bind.
After using a friends Fuji E550, that had some other drawbacks (less wide angle, XD memory), but was so much faster, I returned it and bought the Fuji for quite a bit less.
Pros: Good deal for a competent camera
Optical zoom
Cons: Could get better battery power
Can be hard to read
This is the greatest camera for three main reasons:
1) Very compact size. It is just over 2" and 4.5" wide. Easy to fit right in your hand or keep in a pocket.
2) 5.3 MP. I get very clear pictures for all my needs -- family pictures, vacations, even the shot of our house that we put on the website when we sold it were very good quality.
3) I got it for about $300. For cameras with less MP and larger body, I know people who paid a hundred more.
My son says the menu is hard to read, but not so hard once you get used to it. Overall, for a good deal on a trustworthy brand, I like this.
Still Love it after 4 years use by oo7star ,Feb 22 '08
Pros: Crisp , clear pictures ,great customer service Cons: would have been nicer if it were as sleek as sony T70
Great Camera.....would buy it all over again. The ccb went bad after 3 1/2 year usage and they fixed it free including both ways shipping. It is as good as new now!
s60 a great mid-range camera by stryke_out ,Oct 23 '04
Pros: Great quality, ease of use, and battery life. Cons: When camera shuts off automatically it goes back to default setting. BAD FOR UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY!
The canon s60 camera is a great mid-range camera for those who are looking for great quality, with a few of the more professional settings that you find on many professional style digital cameras. With newer advanced settings like underwater white balance, and a photo stitch mode, and a wide angle lens, the s60 gives you more flexibility than any other 5 megapixel camera for the same price.
Easy, Comfortable and Light by ella138 ,Oct 15 '04
Pros: comfortable, light, easy to use, accurate color reproduction, many auto choices to choose from Cons: Download to computer is slow, viewfinder is off by a bit
I bought this camera as an anniversary gift for my husband. He has been struggling with the Nikon Coolpix 995 for a few years now.
What a breath of fresh air the S60 is. It is not complicated at all. It is easy to carry and the pictures that come out are beautiful. I've only had it for a couple of weeks but I just came back from a trip in Northern Ontario and the color of the fall foliage came out accurately and beautifully.
The lens is also so much faster than the Nikon camera I had. I could freeze a waterfall on the auto setting and I also had the option of slowing down the shutter to create an effect of the water moving. There are many "auto" settings available for many different situations as well as 1 main auto setting. I used the "stitching" feature as well. That was fun!
On the work side, I specifically bought this camera because of the wide angle lens. My husband is in real estate and uses it mostly to take shots of homes and rooms.
Trashing a shot is easy...the menu is easy....the whole camera is easy!
The thing breaks after 6 months by inkoo ,Feb 12 '05
Pros: Great quality pictures Cons: Only lasts 6 months
I got an E11 error. Apparently, all the powershots suffer from this error after a while, preventing the lens from extending. The camera was great, while it lasted. Now I just blew another $400 on a Pentax Optio SV. So far so good, but the pictures are poorer in quality.
The new Canon PowerShot S60 digital camera combines a five-megapixel sensor with a newly developed 28-100mm UA wide-angle 3.6x zoom lens providing con...More at eBay
