After 23 years, a replacement for the Cavalier. Update: now reviews both sedan and SS

by mkaresh mkaresh is a Lead on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10
Dec 17 '04 - Updated Oct 11 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Styling, refinement, solid feel, composed relatively quiet ride
Cons: Tepid acceleration, doesn't feel agile, cramped rear seat
The Bottom Line: A solid, attractively styled contender for the mainstream compact sedan buyer. Not much fun to drive, though.

It has been nearly a quarter-century since Chevrolet introduced the Cavalier in the spring of 1981 as an early 1982 model. GM designed these cars to steal consumers back from the Japanese--hence the "J-Car" appellation. They did not. GM tweaked the ...

Chevy Adjusts Its Cavalier Attitude Toward Compacts

by drive571 drive571 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200
Mar 22 '05 - Updated Apr 18 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfortable and quiet ride, impressive interior quality, feels substantial, looks bigger than it is.
Cons: Numb electric steering, droning exhaust note, unexciting dynamics, key rivals are soon to be redesigned.
The Bottom Line: Chevy has achieved parity with the current Civic and Corolla. But since those benchmarks are nearing the end of their production cycles, the Cobalt may not shine for long.

My Experience I've always had a weakness for small Chevys, since my first car was an '84 Cavalier wagon, and I've always liked the idea of buying another one someday. Until very recently, though, it seemed that Chevrolet had grown too fat off ...

The 2005 Cobalt : It's redesigned, but is it improved?

by mycouponz Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000
Mar 28 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Sporty drive, nifty seats & features
Cons: Crappy interior, too many add-ons/options, base model is poorly-equipped
The Bottom Line: Chevy=Chevrolet=GM=@#$@#%@#

Let's face it : the Cavalier was definitely due for a remake. Although there was nothing wrong with the engine, the interior was dull and of poor quality, the seats were ugly and uncomfortable and, from the outside, the car really did not stand out. ...

Cobalt SS:I love this car! (But I'm still getting used to the appearance)

by frebo3
Jul 27 '05 - Updated Sep 07 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: The Cobalt SS handles more like a high-powered sport motorcycle than a 4-wheeler
Cons: Low utility cup holders
The Bottom Line: The combination of a high-revving engine, slick shifting, rapid acceleration, very responsive braking, and highly responsive steering makes this car a joy to drive!

WARNING: If you expect to read all the widely published and generally available specifications for the Cobalt SS in this review, you're going to be disappointed. Go to http://www.tuningnews.net/news /040405a/chevrolet-cobalt-ss.p hp for that. ...

What a wonderful surprise!

by cgarcia03
Jul 15 '05 - Updated Jun 18 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Surprising quality for the class, sporty design, nice interior touches, excellent clutch, and quiet cabin.
Cons: Somewhat firm seats, shallow cup holders, and no center armrest.
The Bottom Line: For the price, you'll be hard-pressed to find a sportier, smoother shifting, fun-to-drive car with the kind of fit and finish this one offers.

My fiancee and I recently graduated from college, and were in need of an affordable, economical second car since we'd just started new jobs on opposite ends of town. We needed something that would get comparable gas mileage to the 2003 Ford Focus ZTS ...

The C6's Younger Brother?

by paxnoctis
Jun 01 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun factor, great premium sound system, "cool" design, quiet ride.
Cons: Cup holders (ugh), small back seat. Steering-assist will not appeal to everyone
The Bottom Line: For what it is (competition for the Civic and it's ilk) the Cobalt is a bold and well-done entry into the field. Those expecting more will be disappointed.

Corvette's Little Brother Introduction I'll admit it, when I first saw the Cobalt commercial, I was won over. The commercial was 'Bump', and it's the one where the Cobalt bumps a C6 Corvette, and the C6 wheels around to 'berate' it's smaller ...

A terrific compact car

by defiant1
Jun 05 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Styling, refinement, power, awesome stereo.
Cons: A few cheap decisions from the GM bean counters.
The Bottom Line: Definitely put this on the top of your list if you're in the market for a sporty coupe.

Until recently, I drove a 2002 Honda Civic LX sedan. No problems with that car at all but it was time to give it to my sister and buy something else. I researched all of the many cars in the economy compact class and decided on the new Chevrolet ...

I LOVE MY COBALT!

by caelestis
Mar 12 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, Style, Mileage, Peppiness, comfortable ride.
Cons: Cramped if person is too tall. Back seats do not have much space.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a mid sized car BUY IT! Definitely prefered this car to Hyundai and is nicer looking than others in its class.

As it says in the title, I love my cobalt. This may not be the opinion shared by all, but it is perfect for me and my needs. I wanted a new car, I wanted a cute car, I wanted a car that had 4 doors, but at the same time I did not want a big/long car. ...

Love my Cobalt

by kdmarks
Feb 25 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great ride, all the comforts that I require.
Cons: Low head room for tall people, ran into small ingintion problem.
The Bottom Line: I would buy this car again. Mine has a lot of factory extras, including really nice rims, sun roof, and sound system. I think these extras make the car great.

I was trying to decide between the Cobalt and the new Scion Tc. After discussing my life plans with my husband, we felt we would possibly be having children within the period we are paying for the car, and decided a 2 door would not work if we had ...

An economy gem.

by inkus_ginkus
Nov 05 '05 - Updated Dec 08 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Turns out to be just what we were hoping for.
Cons: Skimpy rear seat leg room. Poor rear window visibility for backing.
The Bottom Line: Enjoying this car even though I've been driving Suburbans and full-size pickups for the last 17 years.

We have 3500 miles on our new Cobalt and are quite pleased. Checked first tankful and got 33.5 mpg on mostly highway miles, with occasional A/C use. While Toyota or Civic seem to get 5 mpg higher, the Cobalt was enough cheaper to equal the difference. ...

Pros: Apperance, Features, Bang for your Buck!!
Cons: Center Console, Head Room
The Bottom Line: This car is much better than any Civic or Scion money can buy!!

Pros: Quality interior, smooth ride, good handling, lots of features, 2.2L Ecotec engine
Cons: cup holders could be deeper?

This is a very buggy car!

by mommycatb
Jun 09 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Smooth ride, good on gas, spunky
Cons: Very buggy mechanically.
The Bottom Line: This model year is plagued with trouble. Think twice!

If there is one thing I've learned about posting my opinion here at Epinions.com, it's that I should wait until we've owned something for a while before posting a review on it. If something is going to go wrong, it tends to happen after we've owned it ...

Jun 18 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Acceleration; Sporty Look; Excellent Reliability; Great Price
Cons: Large trunk, but small opening; Hard to stop driving!
The Bottom Line: The best value and fun in it's class!

I purchased my 2005 Cobalt Coupe just over two years ago now. I am a 20 yr old college student so this car is made pretty much directly for my segment. After driving the Civic and Corrolla before taking this one for a spin i was quite impressed with ...

Blue Cobalt :-(

by vugoblue
Nov 16 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: NICE COLORS, COMFORTABLE FRONT SEATS, GREAT VISIBILITY BACK AND FRONT, GOOD HEIGHT, HUGE TRUNK
Cons: UNCOMFORTABLE BACK SEAT, SIMPLE INTERIOR, NOT ENOUGH LIGHTING
The Bottom Line: If you really need room in your car for more than 2 adult passengers do not buy it cause it is not comfortable in the back seat.

I really got hooked with the comercial at first the car looked nice, and the colors are awesome. So I go to Cabrera Hermanos Hatillo Puerto Rico february 2005 and bought me one, base, beautiful blue, 4 doors, $16,500.00. First month had to go back to ...
