Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Styling, price, reliability
Cons: Power, options, build quality
The Bottom Line: A recommended truck. Very cheap for a new vehicle, trouble-free operation packaged in a stylish car.

I bought a 2005 Ranger EDGE a little over a year ago, and I thought it was time I let people know what I think about it... When I bought it, I had just crashed my 2000 Ford Explorer (which is very similar to the Ranger mechanically). I liked the ...

A good basic truck for beginners

Pros: Good gas mileage, runs solid, no rattles or squeaks
Cons: Ride in cab is not a quite as I'd like.
The Bottom Line: It runs solid with out squeaks or rattles. It gets pretty good gas milage. Ford is one of the few companies that still makes a small truck. I like small.

I just purchased a 2005 Ford Ranger. It’s a basic truck. Its body type is XL and it has a 4 cylinder engine, automatic with air. It has a black nostril bar grille and 15” argent steel wheels. It’s my first truck. I was surprise by a few things. ...

Pros: Quiet running and and good value.
Cons: No grease stock fittings to lube chassis.
Bought a Super Cab FX4 model Ranger to replace a full-size pick-up that I no longer needed. Owned it for about one month now with no problems. Very quiet running with desent pep for a compact pick-up. Ford may advertise this truck as a 4 passenger vehicle but there's literally only room for two. Might be able to add two small kids but can not install child seats on those jump seats in back.

Pros: Dependable, not bad gas mileage, great truck, mechanically sound.
Cons: Requires to be filled up with gasoline when the tank is empty- con is required.
I've owned this truck since 97 and I've had only minor problems with it. Since I purchased it I've replaced the battery, a heat control valve (17 bucks and I put it on myself in about 2 minutes and I'm NOT mechanically inclined), brakes, tires, uhhh...that's about it. Nothing major at all. I did however have a problem with the dome light/door ding chime thing staying on for hours after the door was closed. After finally researching it on the net I discovered the problem was only a stuck or gooped up sensor. The solution was to spray the door switch mechanism with WD-40. That was about 2 years ago and I haven't had that problem since. I have about 140,000 miles on this truck and I would definitely buy another Ford Ranger whenever this one dies which I hope won't be for a long long time. Love this truck!

Solid little truck!

Pros: Solid build, comfortable and a good ride.
Cons: Gas mileage could be better.
I bought a 2005 Ranger FX4 Off Road in mid 2005. With 8 months of driving I can now say that this is a super truck. I considered the new Tacoma as well, but the styling is too faux beefy so I chose the snappy Ranger FX4. Fully loaded, auto tranny, 4WD and limited slip differential, electric everything, skid plates, 6 cylinder (very throaty) engine. This truck does all I ask and more. Peppy, smooth, quiet and fun to drive. This is my 3rd Ranger, and I can definitely say that this line has been improved a lot over the years (my first was a 1980). Needs some improvement in the mileage category--typically about 15 with the cap on, locally and up to 20 on the highway at 65 w/o the cap.

Pros: torque, 207 stock hp, off road package=muy bueno, very quick, very reliable, great looks, Ford=)
Cons: wrangler r/t tires, ugh.
I just bought this off road packaged truck a month ago, with a little under 25,000 miles under its belt. I've put near a 1,000 miles on it so far and the ride hasn't changed a bit. Only mods I've done to it is a Flowmaster super 44 muffler with 3" inlet and 2.5" outlet. Sounds like a beast. Prior to the muffler it definitely had the most throaty stock v6 set up I've ever heard, with only 1" or so pipes! Fastest 6 I've ever driven, lots of get up and go. Going to buy some JBA headers for it soon, and some all terrain tires. Could use a leveling kit, which I'm purchasing soon. If I didn't have the spare money to throw into it though, I would be very happy driving it daily stock!
