Pros: They don't sell it anymore Cons: you can still get them second-hand
To all you people with the battery problem. Cyberhome knew of the problem but continued to sell the product. Not only did they let stores sell them, they still supplied stores with faulty units with an "addendum" to the instructions which explained the ...

Cyberhome Portable DVD player
by bonniesayers - Top 50,Apr 30 '05
Pros: customer service replaces defected units in a quick manner Cons: volume is not at maximum levels for viewing enjoyment
I was thrilled when this Cyberhome Portable DVD player arrived as a year end gift through Epinions. It took me awhile to figure out the unit was a defect. I called customer service and followed the steps of getting an RMA and sent the unit back. The customer is responsible for mailing with the replacement due within ten days.
In exactly ten days I got the new DVD player. I want to note that only the unit inside the original box is sent back, the battery, plugs and accessories are not returned. We used the DVD player on the Amtrak ride to San Diego last month with good results. The points I would like to emphasize is the volume is not loud enough, either watching it on the screen or through the television and utilizing the volume in this manner. The key is not to use the battery or keep it in the player unless you are viewing through the player.
The bad news is that I no longer have this player as my home was burglarized two days ago, therefore I can only post an express review without the unit to give specifics

Same problem as other Reviewer
by tomwilt ,Apr 01 '05
Pros: easy to use, good picture Cons: poor battery functions.
The battery is drained in 12-24 hours when the player is not in use. I assumed this is caused by the standby mode. The player is always in standby, you can't turn standby off.
If you turn the player off and plug in A/C adapter, it automatically changes the battery. It doesn't recommend charging the battery more than 8 hours. Basically the only way not to overcharge battery or deplete it when off is to take the battery out.
It seems like a nice little DVD Player. Nice picture and good sounds. I returned mine to Radio Shack. I just didn't want to hassle with removing the battery to keep it at full charge.

Mine just caught fire
by docks5 ,Mar 23 '08
Pros: Ease of use. Cons: The small issue of the fire.
This seems to be a decent unit. Other than the poor battery life. My children have enjoyed it on many long trips, and I have certainly been thankful for the distractions. It has simple button functions and a decent screen.
However, my wife just returned from a trip to see relatives. While on her way back she started to smell an "electrical burn smell". About that time my kids started crying, saying "a fire". She stopped the van and retrieved our Cyberhome portable DVD player. She observed that there had indeed been a small fire on the unit. The exterior appears normal until you flip open the screen. Next to the Cyberhome Logo is what I assume is the optical eye. This has completely melted and has a burned area. Up until now the unit has performed fairly well besides the short battery life.
As a side note, the dvd player was plugged into the auxiliary power supply.
The model # is CH-LDV 700B
Please be careful.

Bad Battery
by kzab ,Jul 27 '05
Pros: None Cons: Bad battery and low volume
Same thing as everyone else...horrible battery! I took my battery out of the unit when I wasn't using it, per their website suggestion and now the battery prongs inside the battery pack are warped and don't touch the battery to work.
Am waiting to hear back from Cyberhome on how they will assist me. I would like to get a different model that does not have this problem or get my money back. I would NOT recommend that anyone buy this product.

Nice unit
by basil2 ,Mar 17 '05
Pros: Strong case, good picture, and easy to use. Cons: Battery life problems, built in speakers.
Picture is great at all angles. Picture is also good in the daytime when riding around in the car. Built in speakers are so-so but the unit sounds better through headphones.
Question: What is up with the battery? I recharged it and watched about 1 hour of a movie. Wanted to finish the rest of the movie the next day and the battery was drained. I guess I'll try the other raters advice and remove the battery when not in use. Overall I am satisfied with this player.

Battery
by cadillacjazz ,Jul 09 '05
Pros: Nice size, volume, picture. Nice designed leather case. Cons: The battery. Where's the bunny. Energize much too much. I give up.
Nice portable size DVD player. For the size, the volume is fine, also the earphones. The fact that it plays
most everything.
I enjoy it when I'm at home. I purchased this product because of the price, size and capability.
The fact, that I am undecided as to if I should take it on trips, disturbs me. The battery power is unbelievable and I'm disappointed.
When I charged my battery, it takes 3 -4 hours, which only allows 45 - 1 hour of playtime. I thought my system was broken.
Is the battery placed incorrectly? No. guess what? the battery needed charging again.
I charged the system 1 day ago. The second day I decided to play the DVD player, guess what? I had to recharge my battery. Maybe I should buy I new battery? I guess that's what I get for purchasing a, no brand name product. Now I'm shopping for another portable DVD player.

Battery is AWFUL!
by pattyandryan ,Apr 16 '07
Pros: No pros Cons: Battery will not charge
The battery is a joke. Mine won't even charge at all and I cannot find a replacement anywhere, which means that I have to go spend another few hundred dollars buying a whole new DVD player. What a waste of money. I am extremely dissappointed. Do not bother buying this brand.Battery will not charge, so you can only use in while plugged in, which defeats its purpose.

DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS BRAND!
by video_bank ,Mar 05 '06
Pros: None. 5 different players, I still find myself with 5 useless electronics, no functioning player Cons: customer service requested an extra $45 to have latest one fixed even under warranty
This is the fourth Cyber Home DVD player I own, and after only 2 months of having it (record time for it functioning) yet again is completely useless. I have used my warranty for cyberhome products every time I have purchased an electronic from them, and still I find myself without a functioning DVD player. You might be asking yourself "why does he keep buying this brand then?" well, they seem to be the only company that sells a portable multy region, multi system DVD Player for less than $500... and the lesson learned: you get what you pay for. After three regular players and two portable ones, I can absolutely say this is the worst brand of electronics I have ever purchased in my 12 years as an audio/video consumer.... Save yourself some money and spend MORE on a better brand, it'll pay off in the end.

Very Good DVD Player
by imqru ,Nov 16 '04
Pros: User Friendly, Good Picture, Nice Appearance, Light. Cons: Battery Maintenance.
The Cyberhome CH-LDV 700B offers sharp pictures. It plays everything. e.g. dvd rw+/-, vcd, jpeg, cd r/rw. It has a Progressive Scan video output. Power source is AC 100-230V, 50/60Hz. It's light and compact, and very easy to use.
Note: Due to power consumption from Standby mode(even though the dvd player is off), it will drain out the juice from the battery. So, make sure to take the battery out when not in use. Enjoy!

Same problem as the other CH model LDV707B
by frenchcx ,Aug 05 '04
Pros: Pros: good picture quality and easy to use Cons: Cons: It has a built-in battery/power supply design problem
I returned the first unit to Radio Shack less than a month after purchase.I paid $229 will get a $30 mail-in rebate. The problem was with the battery/power supply. There is evidently a design problem with this part of the unit. A fresh charge on the battery allows it to play less than 2 hours. Example: On a fresh charge I played 1 hour of a movie then shut off the unit after checking the battery status - which showed half a charge left. The next day I went to play the rest of the movie and the battery was dead. Nothing. I was contemplating buying a second battery as a back-up, but after noting the price of nearly $90, I will not spend almost half what I paid for the entire unit just for a battery. Not worth it.Perhaps the best advice I read about this and similar units concerning the depletion of the battery while in the unit is: TAKE THE BATTERY OUT OF THE UNIT WHEN NOT IN USE OR NOT BEING CHARGED.

Stay far away from this player
by wfpaez ,Oct 13 '04
Pros: Wide media type list and MP3s. Cons: Expensive (~$200) for such poor quality and unreliable performance.
I purchased the unit in July of this year. Bad: The battery does not hold a charge. Cyberhome's own FAQ says to not use the battery in the player. Worse: After two months of careful use, the device stopped tracking DVDs an hour into the movie. These are *new* commercial DVDs (no scratches, no finger prints). Worst: Some DVDs, particularly those from FOX, have a terrible time getting beyond the red, FOX warning screen and into the title menu. Many of these DVDs are simply unplayable in this device. Cleaning the device did not resolve the issue.

Sound and battery problems
by jsm87 ,May 18 '05
Pros: Good picture. Cons: Low sound, bad battery.
Same problems noted by other reviewers. The battery does not hold a charge long and the sound level is too low (hard to hear in a car even at max volume).
