Pros: not expensive Cons: not enough GB
I am another consumer looking for a low cost tool to use for the next 3-5 years. Spending less than $800.00 for a desktop and printer was most welcoming. These machines are handy, complete, easy to set up and use. Perfect if you will not be doing fancy...

Pros: Cheap. Reliable. Many on used market. Cons: Limited expandibility. 256 meg ram max. Only two pci slots.
I've used a number of old Emachines etowers. They range from the 400 to 533. I am typing this on a revived 400. The video on the mobo went out from not working to sporadic to dead again. An old generic pci video card fixed that. This thing is like a cat. ...

Pros: Was inexpensive compared to a Hewlett Packard Cons: Have had problems from day one.
Boy did we think we were getting a deal with this machine. If my understanding of the emachines is correct, I believe that is is a lower end of Hewlett Packard. I really don't have much good to say about it. We have owned it for 4 years. After 2 months ...

Pros: Inexpensive with decent features Cons: Overheats easily and modem is not high quality.
I bought this computer because it was inexpensive yet had quite a few features that I wanted. I wont say do not buy this computer, but I will tell you that it probably isn't going to be something you should expect to keep long term. I have had this...

Pros: easy to use Cons: slow
We got our e-machine last year as a house warming gift. It was my first computer, and first experience using the internet. The first one had a bad disk drive, and my sister returned it to Cosco and got another. It is a bit noisy, but works well. I...

Pros: Cost Cons: Modem
The advertisements of massive rebates finally got to me and I decided to purchase this product. Overall, it's not a bad deal- for the money. Most of the plugs are color-coded, so setup isn't bad. As the title suggests, this model's usefulness depends on...

A tribute to an amazing machine
by unruly1 ,Sep 22 '06
Pros: Durable, dependable, easily upgradable, stable Cons: Absolutely none
Almost seven years is just an astounding lifespan for a PC. Especially one with the minimal price tag of an eMachine.
In fact, my 400i is still going strong and is only being replaced because she can't keep up with today's video.
She's had so many upgrades over the years and has handled them all with grace. Once every couple of years she'd have a glitch, but after a reboot and disk scan she was fine. I never had to call tech support. Not once.
I don't need two computers in my home, but I'm going to keep my 400i on the network anyway. Just because she's earned it.
I know I will never again have a PC that is so completely reliable for so long, but when I got my new one, I made sure it was an eMachine!
