Pros: Sharp and fast lens, fixed focal length, tiny, light and very versatile. Cons: It doesn't say Leica or Contax on the case.
My camera is actually an Olympus mju II, which is exactly the same as the Stylus Epic, only purchased in Beijing, China. Other than the name, the cameras are totally identical. There is a story behind the purchase location, simplified down to my wife ...
Pros: Great camera! Excellent price to value ratio! Cons: Only 2 minor issues: no zoom and it really doesn't support panoramic photos.
I've owned many a camera over the years, some costing over $400, but none have been as versatile or a better value for the money. 3 years ago I had to make a number of business and vacation trips to Las Vegas, France, Spain, Orlando, and Atlanta all in ...
Pros: Easy to use 35mm point and shoot 38-170 zoom lens and water resistant Cons: No image stabilizer
Wow, this is my 4th Olympus camera. This time I needed a new camera because my husband took our Stylus Epic Zoom 140QD to Florida with him. Now I needed a new camera for my upcoming vacation, this Since I could not yet decide on which digital to buy, I...
Pros: Amazing durability, compact size and weatherproofing! Cons: Beware the glowing reviews of optics. There are "good", not "great".
I bought the Oly Stylus about 10 months ago after hearing rave reviews about this little unit all over the place. (It was the "perfect storm" of a favourable article in Popular Photography and a great sale price on the camera that caused my credit card ...
Pros: Lightweight, water resistant, auto point and shoot great zoom quality 35-170mm Cons: No panoramic mode (only on deluxe model), no image stabilizer
I bought this camera twice. First at WAL MART at list $228.98. At 2nd WAL MART found on clearance at $137.00....I refunded the 1st one. WAL MART reduced price to carry more Minolta at their stores.
Superb point-and-shoot 35 mm camera with outstanding magnifying 170 zoom by litescmra ,Jun 12 '05
Pros: Excellent point-and-shoot camera, easy to operate, good lens quality, good zoom, modest price. Cons: A little heavy and bulky.
I have had several years of excellent results from modestly priced Olympus 35 mm cameras. The photos have been clear, the color consistently bright and well-defined, and images focused and well-defined and detailed. However, I needed a new one this last month. I was looking for one with strong magnifying zoom and clearly imprinted date/time info. I ordered an Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom 170 35 MM camera through the Amazon.com Marketplace for $130. My first roll of film produced wonderful photos, repeated the bright, clear, focused, images I have previously experienced. I am especially pleased with the date/time imprint. It is clear, has an apostrophe before the year to differentiate it from the day and month, and is legible without obliterating the photo.
The camera is thicker than the lower strength zoom-lens cameras.
I am glad to recommend this camera.
Fragile and very disappointing! by franklynn ,Feb 15 '06
Pros: Who knows, never had a chance to use it. Came with nice case though! Cons: Have no faith in Olympus cameras or the companies lack of response to my letter.
I purchased the Olympus Zoom for a trip we are planning to Alaska. Unfortunately my first attempt at taking a picture was at a christening and the camera literally ate the film and no pictures were taken! The film wound all the way forward to the end while the winding mechanism continued to run non-stop until we removed the battery. I inserted a new roll of film only to have the same result except after winding forward, it reversed itself and rewound all the way back with the winding mechanism continuing to run and all controls frozen. Again we had to remove the battery to stop the camera. The camera store that we purchased it from had to return the camera for repair. This is before I even had the opportunity to use it!
I sent a detailed letter to the Olympus headquarters explaining my experience only to have never received a response. Due to this experience, I will never recommend Olympus or own another one!

Pros: All Mentioned Above Cons: Not a single friggin one, hate the zoom model though.
This Camera rocks. It beats the ever-loving tar out of most of my other cameras in one way or another. I am an art major hoping to get into photo journalism (long story, but it will work, trust me) and for over half my shoots, this is the camera I grab.
It's unobtrusive.
I have lenses for my SLRs that would make some paparazzi blush, but with this thing I can get close enough to any subject for them not to notice or care.
It's sharp.
Even in total darkness this things performs like a pro, at least as well as the Nikons I've abandoned quickly.
It's cheap.
Very very affordable, keep one in the camera bag and one in the car.
It's durable.
While Hiking in New Mexico, one of mine survived a fall from at least thirty feet onto rocks and into a creek, it only took one night of drying for it to be shooting away again like new.
Water-Resistant
Managed to take the beating of salt spray in Costa Rica. Very well done
I purchased this camera for my vacation to Europe and was extremely impressed with the quality of my pictures. I was concerned because the camera does not have a zoom option, however, as someone advised me in my purchase decision - "if you need to use zoom for a picture, just walk closer to the subject." Overall, the camera was perfect for my trip and I was happy with my first Dealtime purchase.
I received this camera as... by ellen_dt3001 ,Dec 11 '02
I received this camera as a birthday gift three years ago and love it! (I have had several 35mm cameras in the past: a Hanimex with several lenses, a Minolta Zoom, a Canon Zoom, each progressively smaller but none as conveniently small as this one.) I wanted a 35 mm point-and-shoot to avoid (a) spending time focusing with a zoom (and losing the moment); and (b) carrying extra weight in my purse. With this camera, I can often put it in any purse, backpack or hand luggage, with case, or a small evening bag (without case) and it is always ready to use. It has travelled with me to Jamaica, Hawaii, Egypt, France, Vietnam, Peru and Italy and never disappoints! I discovered the panorama feature by accident and use it occasionally. I plan to give two of these as gifts this Christmas.
I found the photo quality was the best that I have seen in a camera. I liked the auto shoot-off and the pop up flash and automatic lens changing when the cover is being closed. An excellent camera. I would highly recommend this camera for someone who wants a great shot, but doesn't have time to switch lens, flash and film.
