You need to buy the chip ($150)for the unit to be able to accept waypoints from my last Garmin GPS IV that have been stored in my computer with the MapSource disc ($100). The display can be seen alot better in the daylight with the backlight on.

I have the 176c and can't see the display in bright daylight. It is frustrating to navigate with it on sunny days. Is wonderful at night. Features are wonderful, love the trip feature which gives miles traveled. Makes fuel calculations a sinch.

The 176C is an excellent GPS with a lot of features. It was easy to learn to use and has proven to be very accurate with the WAAS feature. It has all of the screens that are needed to navigte very comfortably. The map screen is pretty much washed out in bright daylight.However that isn't a real loss since at least 95% of my navigational use is with the compass screen. I don't havy any reservations about recommending this GPS.
