Pros: A few nice tracks, some solid beats from Ant. Cons: Slugs delivery still needs polish and his lyrics try much too hard to be deep.
Some heads nowadays act as though sensitive, introspective rappers are a new occurrence, when that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Many rappers have dealt with their feelings on topics of love, hate, loss, pain, death, and society on a great many...
Pros: Original, Genuis. Cons: Very underrated album.
If you're into rap music and you've never heard of Atmosphere, then you're really missing out on a great indie rap hero. Atmosphere's main rapper, Slug is a lyrican genuis as far as a dysfunctional rapper goes. This album is full of energy, odd and ...
Pros: Intelligent and Complex Lyrics, Storytelling, Introspectiveness, Tight Production, No Filler Cons: Bits of Bad Production, Sometimes tries to Hard to be complex
The Underground and Mainstream parts of hip hop span nationwide. Emcees spring up in New York, Chicago, California, Louisiana, and Atlanta, and many more places. But one of the most overlooked underground rumblers in hip hop are the intelligent emcee ...
Pros: Almost every song rocks, lyrics are outstanding as are the beats. Cons: Some beats are lacking, but only a few.
1. Onemosphere: The song starts with two little girls chanting “you’re so ugly, you’re so ugly.” It then bounces into a somewhat eerie beat which has a good baseline and what seems to be a harp in the background plucking the strings quickly, dancing ...
Pros: Slug's lyrics along with Ant's beats produce an underground Classic. Cons: Some perceive Slug's lyrics as pretentious, when they really just don't understand them.
Atmosphere is a group consisting of two Slug, the emcee, and Ant, the producer. The Minnesota locals first 2 full length albums, Overcast and The Lucy Ford EPs, were simply amazing, and groundbreaking. However, there were slight ...
Pros: Great lyrics, beats, and creativity, Cons: Might be too dark and foreboding for some listeners,
Ever since Atmosphere dropped its first CD Overcast, it has been clear that Shawn is an artist that must be watched in the hip hop underground. Instantly from the rolling beats and timely hooks you knew that this was someone to be reckoned with....
Pros: Beats, Lyrics, no filler Cons: Not for everyone, poetic lyrics may dig deeper than most are willing to go
I first heard about Atmosphere from a friend at school when I decided to delve into the underground scene. I was getting tired of the same old mainstream monotony. Good music is good music, but everything was beginning to sound the same. Low and ...
Pros: a very honest, raw effort from Atmosphere Cons: newer fans will find the production values lacking
Earlier this year, Atmosphere released "When Life Hands You Lemons..." an elaborately packaged concept album that had some innovative viral marketing support behind it. It's an excellent record and it stands up again anything else the duo has put out. ...
Pros: Gotta love slug's self-depreciating, sarcastic, and numbed presence Cons: seems off-balance, perhaps tailor made for hip-hop fans who never heard of slug
Yes, slug, the ever-famous, late twenty-something who's superhero status in the so-called underground hip-hop community has been unquestioned as of late.
Oh yeah. He's back, too. He's got some album called God Loves Ugly. And now I'm...
Pros: The music is touching, great for a gift to your girl. Cons: not recommended to angry youth.
I purchased this cd about a year or so ago at a barnes and noble store in the minneapolis area. Of all the music I have heard of atmospheres This is one of my favorite of his cds. However the feel I get from this cd is different from the others I have heard. It seems to be more about his personal life I think. However this cd is good, and I would recommend anyone just to at least listen to the words of this man, even if it dont make sense.
God loves Paul Revere and the Raiders! by en_particulier ,Jun 29 '05
Pros: If you like choruses, Slug chants his endlessly. Cons: God may love ugly music, but not me. Listen to The Coup instead.
Slug and Ant have thus far put their big ol' heads together and given us, yes, you and me, one great album..."The Lucy For Ep's" and a few great songs, like "Lonely Summer." Other than that, however, they blow. Emo (c)rap. *Shudder*
Basic Atmosphere track:
Stale Ant beat with annoying drum programming w/ too much clap. Slug connects a bunch of unrelated stuff together and delivers it emo-tionally. Lots of misogyny, but not in a mainstream rap way. No, in a subtle whiteboy kinda way. Boring chorus. More emoting. Return to the chorus at the end of the song and repeat it. For, like, ten minutes.
I swear, an Atmosphere song is, like, 75% chorus. And not even good chorus, but boring, repetitive, non-catchy, makes you wanna holler "Bill Nye, the Science Guy!" boring.
"F--- You Lucy" is good...until you listen to it more than once.
"God Loves Ugly" is the sole good track...even if it kinda goes nowhere.
Don't buy. Burn it...literally. With matches. And gasoline. Yes.
