Pros: Good Audio. Radio tunner. Good Price. Compatible Cons: Stereo to ProLogic not that good.
A great reciver. I use it to watch Dolby Digital DVDs. I have also hooked it up to my digital cable box where in some channells I can recive dolby digital audio. Can convert stereo tv channels to prologic. But it was hard for me to notice any difference.

by nicodemus79 ,Nov 17 '03
Pros: High Compatibility
Lots of features (DSP, Midnight Mode, Dimmer, Distance setting, etc.
Value
Quality Cons: Not 6.1 compatible
I bought this on sale as a home-theater-in-a-box, and I love it. The sound is great and it supports about anything you need except 6.1, but for the money this model is great. Different DSP listening modes including Arena, Stadium, and Disco. It's Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, and DTS compatible. Wonderful reciever for the money!

Bought with matched 5.1 speakers (home theater in a box)

Pros: Great feature set for the money. Kenwood obviously shines here. Telephone support was excellent. Cons: The manual; the manual; the manual...
Great results, once you figure out out the jargon of the technology and how [best] to cable your input sources (this is pretty critical) and your outputs. You can waste money buying and cabling using S-video, for instance, when your television provides Component video inputs; or buying RCA or co-axial audio when your audio device (e.g., DVD player) provides a digital fiber-optic output. The manual succinctly defines the sound formats of the various audio sources, but for the newbie this is wholly inadequate. Should have a section explaining the terminology and the receiver's cabling possibilities and setting options in context for the average Joe. I had to call Kenwood to get some pretty plain answers which should have been in the manual; I found this to be an unnecessary waste of my time (and emotional!) resources... and I'm usually pretty good with configuring electronics and computers.
