It died after two years
by dksmith11 ,Sep 23 '06
Pros: Looks really good. Cons: Disposable item; Maytag's warranty doesn't cover transformers after 1 year.
This microwave/hood worked very well for two years and then quit midstream during a reheating process. Unfortunately, Maytag's warranty doesn't cover transformers after one year, so I was terribly disappointed when I had to either a) fork over $200 for cost/labor of a new transformer or b) $300 for a new micro/hood, which was our choice (changed brands). The first customer service person I spoke with at Maytag tried to tell me that microwaves didn't have transformers. So when I called back with the part number (from my Maytag certified appliance repair person), the second customer service person told me that it had already been documented that I was told transformers weren't covered under the extended warranty. Buy another brand
by lawhawker ,Jul 20 '07
Pros: It looks nice Cons: It's junk.
We remodeled our kitchen last year and bought all new Maytag appliances, including this microwave. It's been a nightmare. The refrigerator was wired improperly, the dishwasher broke, and this Maytag microwave is a piece of junk. It's broken down several times, most recently right after the warranty expired, costing us almost $200 to fix. One more malfunction and it's curbside. We'll never buy Maytag again.

Died Twice in 2 Years
by eandjhayes ,Mar 17 '07
Pros: With the right conditions you may be able to roast marshmallows Cons: Prone to break and possibly burn
This microwave first caught on fire, yes, FIRE, after 6 months of routine use. Maytag replaced it without hesitation. The new one worked fine for the next 14 months, but then began making the same noises as the first one did before it went up in flames. So I have changed brands.
