I am not a computer expert, but I am an expert when it comes to the different versions of Office. I have used Office versions nearly everyday since Office 95. I have been impressed (and sometimes let down) by the steps that Microsoft have taken since ...
Pros: Graphics and test are very readable; smooth, easy on the eyes. Cons: Pricy, pricy, pricy!
I have used every release of the Microsoft Office, Microsoft ever growing and complex office automation suite, since the release of version 4.0. With the release of Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft has traveled ever further down the ...
Pros: Very polished, very intuitive, very "comfortable" to use Cons: Very pricey
I am not even going to attempt to get into all that has changed about Office 2003 over Office 2000 or Office XP, but what I'd like to do first is refer you to the other epinions on this product if you want the technical stuff because frankly, I don't ...
Pros: Powerful, Moderately Easy to Use Cons: Expensive, Not Much New, One Note 2003

Pros: Better mail filtering than Office XP Cons: Expensive considering free alternative Openoffice and docs.google.com, traditional menu gone!
I've been using office since 1997 and have installed quite a few of these as a systems admin. First of all I have to say that I haven't seen much change in Office since Office 2000 to 2003 - the application has remained virtually the same with a few ...
Why not Office 2007 or Office 2525? by gooberpyle ,Mar 02 '06
Pros: Works fine. Cons: Nothing really.
I mostly use Word, Excel, and Access either singly or through VBA, together.
Several applications I put together with prior versions of the Microsoft Office family didn't work anymore once we upgraded to 2003 because of version differences.
The problems were not difficult to overcome and were due to users trying to load an Office 2003 document which had VBA code modules developed using the prior version of Microsoft Office.
Beyond that, to be totally blunt about it, the differences between the latest and prior version is nothing the average user would even notice.
Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) brought one new problem and it was due to a new security feature (bug) that came to light when a previously working bridge between Access and Word stopped working.
A feature I would like to see built into Access is an intelligent SQL query builder. The wizard is capable of helping a user to make queries but only with a lot of trial and error.
A graphical drag and drop scenario would make life easier.
Office 2003 pro : upgraded from Office 97 pro by aussiejohn ,Oct 06 '05
Pros: Seamless upgrade. All Office 97 data works including Access. Subtle improvements abound! Cons: Don't like Word split pane print preview window and virus scan may slow docs opening
I had to get rid of Windows 98. It was crashing many times daily and just the constant bane of my life. I'd bought Windows XP when it first came out and installed it at one stage but none of the Office 97 programs worked very well so it was back to W98.
Finally bit the bullet and bought Office 2003 upgrade. We have a program written for Access 97 that we use all the time.
I'd had nearly 7 or 8 years out of Office 97 (with an Outlook 98 upgrade). Office 2003 is very straightforward. Probably the best $AUD488 you could spend. If you're on the old software I'd say just do it.
Access 97 is not supposed to be compatible with Access 2000 and later versions. Our program written for Access 97 works fine. A networked W98 notebook with Access 97 can read but not write to Access 2003. It also prints out a bit differently. Simple solution is we just use the main computer for this program. If that's the worst outcome of an upgrade how hard is that?
All you need in one package by cherich ,Mar 16 '04
Pros: Standard MS interface, integrated package of applications Cons: Takes a lot of drive space
Great software suite. Superb word processing and spreadsheet features. Great integration. Easy to use. I use this software everyday. Create a Word document, insert a spreadsheet, publish as a web page. It's great.
I got a free copy from attending the Microsoft 2003 roll-out. I am a computer science major and got a copy. I really see no need to upgrade if you have office XP. Visio, word, excel, access, and project see virtually untouched except for some prettier buttons. Publisher has some nice web features and outlook gained some better organization. All the file formats from office XP can be used with 2003. I use 2003 at home and office XP at school and it is not a problem. If I had office 97, or nothing, I would buy 2003.
