Pros: Controls up to 8 devices, including TiVo and ReplayTV. Near-complete replacement of old remote. Cons: A bit of a learning curve at the beginning. "Enter" button too small.
Note: this review is for the "Philips Magnovox 8-Function Universal Learning Remote with TiVo and Replay Compatibility," model PMDVR8, not the PMDVD6. Epinions doesn't list the PMDVR8, only the PMDVD6, so I'm listing my review here. ...

Worth Every Penny Saved
by send_derek ,May 08 '06
Pros: Product that does what it's supposed to and does it great. Cons: None.
I love this remote. Picked it up at K-Mart for around $15 and it worked flawlessly with my Sanyo TV and Emerson DVD/VCR combo unit. In fact, it works better than the remotes that they came with and it's even more stylish. With the old ones, you had to do the whole "extend-the-arm-until-you-pull-a-muscle" move. Now, I just comfortably lay back and it works. It has all of the functions keys that the original came with.
The manual is very clear and detailed with step by step instructions and complete code list.
Most of my relatives have this exact remote, and now me. No problems on any of them. And they don't "break" unless you abuse 'em. Haha, I don't know why that guy even bothered to write a review. Why would you review a broken product? Return the defective one and get one that works, and that 1 star would turn into a 4 or 5 pretty quickly.

This thing broke
by finance401 ,May 11 '05
Pros: Fun Cons: Broke
I've had it for about two years and it broke. This thing was fun at first, making any button perform any fucnction. Such as, making the 6 button turn on an off the TV to goof around with friends when they were over. It was simple to use, but as with any remote the process is forgotten after awhile so keep the manual handy. However, it broke after only a few battery changes. Some of the buttons take great force to activate. For instance, switching the remote to control the TV button doesn't work. The channel button doesn't work. Some fucntions can't be programmed for some reason, most can, but my mute doesn't work. I don't like replacing my remotes, it's a pain the butt. So if you dont like it either, I suggest buying some other brand. Phillips has never made a quality product, ever.
