Pioneer should be ashamed

by balleger , Dec 14 '03
Pros: TiVo Software & Service, DVD Recording, wireless capability, 2-Year Warranty
Cons: Inferior picture quality, noisy fan & hard drive, very slow booting, recording capacity
I have owned the DVR-57H for several weeks now. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. I bought the 57H as a replacement for my old TiVo series 1. My old series 1 was fairly quiet (in spite of my adding a 2nd drive for a total of 95GB ...

Pioneer DVR-57H Tivo /DVD Recorder

by kevinfor , Oct 12 '03
Pros: best tivo on the market dvd record archive vhs
Cons: can't skip commericals, limited editing
I recently purchased this unit to replace an existing Tivo Series2 (80hr) recorder and a stand alone Pioneer DVR-7000 DVD Recorder.. I was using to archive various programs I had made on Tivo to DVD, I also wanted "less hardware" and fewer cables /faster ...

A fine choice

by glycera , Dec 21 '03
Pros: Integrated TiVo and DVD recorder/player functions; disc capacity; documentation
Cons: Price...price...price!
I installed this unit about two weeks ago, and am perfectly happy with it. It replaces my Philips type 1 TiVo, with 14 hour’ s recording capacity (which , three years ago, I thought would be quite enough!). After much comparison shopping, I ordered ...

No regrets

by retired-navy , May 18 '04
Pros: Installation guide is excellent, recorded picture is excellent, noise is not noticable.
Cons: Probably a little too costly but...
After months and months of researching which DVR and/or TiVo to buy I finally settled on the Pioneer DVR 57H over all else, even Pioneer's other DVR. I do not regret paying the extra cost. Real world experience has shown that a 40 GB hard drive will ...

Cool features but too noisy and glitchy for the price.

by pinions2 , Nov 20 '03
Pros: It's a tivo. Records quickly. PLays MP3 and CD-Audio
Cons: Too noisy, hangs on some DVD-R/W discs, doesn't display JPG, slow boot.
I was looking forward to the DVR-57H, as this box would replace my Tivo, VCR and DVD player--three boxes in one! (with recordable DVD, who needs VCR?) The features are cool, but I ultimately returned the product for two reasons. 1) It could not play ...

Pioneer Elite DVR-57H DVD Recorder/Player

by rrshadow , Jan 14 '05
Pros: DVD player quality of dvd player. Tivo capacity and DVD writer.
Cons: Terrible low quality inputs and lack of compatibility of remote with some systems.
I recently purchased this player for a high end home video system. I ended up moving it to a lower end rec room set-up. A major failure of the unit is its inability to accept high quality (e.g. component input) from a good satellite receiver (I use a ...

Pioneer dvd-rws and faulty Pioneer design

by d3drturner , Mar 01 '06
Pros: had a decent picture when it worked
Cons: was destroyed due to Pioneer firmware bug
Based on my experience with the Pioneer Elite 7000 dvd-rw I will never again buy any Pioneer product. After having not used it to record for quite some time I went out and bought some new 1x/2x dvd rw's. I put the dvd-rw in the drive and it spun for ...

Poor, Poor Picture Quality

by aaschere , Jun 19 '04
Pros: Unit looks nice
Cons: Poor picture quality,
That was a very thorough review, but you forgot the most important negative - the inherent incompatibility between TiVo compression and DVD compression. You see, Pioneer hasn't quite figured out how to work out this little “inconvenience", so while they ...

A great product -- and at a great price too

by macfaden , Aug 14 '04
Pros: Its a TiVO. Best remote to control ever. Reasonable connections (component video, digital audio).
Cons: No digital coax rca output jack -- just optical. Initial setup over phone jack slow.
This was my first TiVO box ever. I had been pushing off till HD TiVO/OTA model would be available as I don't want Sat a connection. So I finally decided to go for an existing unit that had OTA/Coax when the price came down. Boy howdy has it ever. The ...

Pioneer Elite DVR-57H DVD for Enthusiasts Who Want to Make Life Easier

by Howie11239 , Dec 13 '03
Pros: This is the best idea to hit the video/home theater market in years.
Cons: Very expensive. Cannot edit commercials.
Other than its forboding price, there is nothing scary about the Pioneer Elite DVR-57H DVD. It is, in fact, built upon the standard Tivo software, which is designed to make life easier for its users. The unit serves as a DVD recorder, ...

Pioneer Elite DVR-57H DVD Recorder

by lunapark , Jan 27 '04
Pros: Good recording quality, Quiet, Easy to navigate menus
Cons: Minor Pixelation in SP mode(2 hours on DVD)
I found the DVR-57H extremely easy to setup. Setup time was probably 45 minutes for the initial setup. It is important to understand in my opinion, that this maybe a home audio/video piece, but for all intents and purposes, it is a PC. It has a bios, it ...

Great product!

by freestyle77 , Sep 19 '05
Pros: 1. Tivo, 2. DVR to DVD, 3. Lots of storage (big HD)
Cons: Took software upgrade to burn to DVD
I bought this set it up myself, I have a mid-high end system, so there were a lot of wires to connect. I have direct tv service with a Sony sat receiver. At first I had several problems with moving programming to DVD. The recorder was not reading the ...

Pioneer Elite DVR-57H DVD Recorder / Player
by rippee ,Mar 16 '04
Pros: TiVo, DVD burner, great looking, easy hook up, massive hard drive and lots of fun.
Cons: My Pioneer DVR-57H is captivating!
I love this thing!

I researched it and read all the lousy 'epinion' reviews but bought one anyway because it seemed like the unit for me. If you can hear the fan, you must be standing behind it. Our XBOX DVD is way more obnoxious.

Slow boot? WHEN DOES THAT HAPPEN, when you un- and re-plug it? How often is that? TiVo is great, but that's besides the point. I appreciate and am enjoying the DVD burning capabilities. It is also a great looking piece of equipment with plenty of jacks.

My only complaint is that I'm not getting anything else done!

The Right Choice
by prowe332 ,Apr 03 '04
Pros: TIVO. Ease of use. Sharp picture
Cons: None at this time
It took the longest time for me to decide which DVD Recorder to purchase. What finally tipped the scales was the TIVO factor. Having had TIVO on our family room system, I was quite familiar with this amazing little box. Once I set up the 57H and played around with it, it is just a natural to have TIVO and a DVD recorder together. It is so easy moving programs from TIVO to DVDs. The picture quality is excellent. The unit itself is very sharp looking. I am still learning all the features, but I've seen enough already and could not be more pleased with my decision.
