Pros: Lot of inputs. Great picture. Cons: YCbCr input useless
Compusa was running a special on the Olevia Syntax LT 27 HV LCD TV/Monitor recently. The price was $1000 with a $200 rebate. Since I had bad experiences with other sets from Viewsonic, Sharp, Envision and Sony, I plunged in. The idea was to connect a ...
Pros: Bright and clear picture. DVI digital and all analog inputs. Low price. Cons: Marginal remote control, manual, and menus. No video driver. Annoying buzz from the dimmer.
General: For this review, Ill assume you know the basics of TV and have done some research already. With the migration of TV from analog to digital, perhaps youve decided its time to buy a new digital set. The question you should be ...
Pros: EASY setup, light, very good price for the size and type of technology. Cons: Tinny speakers
PLS NOTE: I have the LT27HTX model (which is black, but seems to have the same features - only difference is a faster response rate and no sub-woofer out) I needed to replace my 27" Toshiba behemoth in the living room and wanted to replace it with and ...
Pros: Xlnt resolution. Good PC use. Nice bright image. Price. Cons: Not the most attractive unit on the market.
I decided to upgrade my computer system to the latest AMD FX series and as a result felt the need to upgrade my monitor from my 21" LCD. After weighing my options and reading other reviews along with a nice price tag I ordered up a Syntax 27" for my ...
Pros: Very good picture quality and color w/o HD receiver. (Regular satellite) Excellent price. Cons: Sound quailty could be better. Connected small subwoofer from Sharper Image; helps a lot!
I've had my 27" LCD Syntax (bedroom tv) for over a year, and it is great. Excellent picture quality and color without HD receiver. I'd definitely buy again and highly recommend it. I'm thinking of going to 32", same brand, when the price drops.
Excellent picture quality appearance and value by mcaslan ,Mar 22 '05
Pros: Excellent design, picture quality, value Cons: Weird remote.
Purchased this at CompUSA 21st anniversary sale for $699 after rebates.
The picture quality is excellent and varies according to the connection type. I have viewed the difference using Coaxial, Composite, Component, SVideo, Progressive, and DVI each optimized for a different type of broadcast. Choosing a connection type is a compromise between the available options. The Comcast 6412 has also been adjusted to output HD digital as 720p which is native resolution for the TV and standard TV outputs as 480p.
DVD's look fantastic and clear. As expected the analogue or normal digital channels suffer from some picture quality loss as the TV is definitely optimized for HDTV. Some other 1080i TV's suffered from a very blotchy normal NTSC tv image due to the image conversion. It appears that a conversion to 720p is more realistic and achievable.
I bought all my cables at www.provantage.com cables that were $120 @ CompUSA were $12 @ Provantage. Also, I bought my wall mount bracket at av-clearance an EBay shop again 25% of the price of CompUSA. CompUSA wanted $200 for a bracket that I ended up paying $30 shipped for.

Pros: Never found one! Cons: Remote, Setup Menu, connection placements, navigation through the remote, Picture quality of all types
I was so excited when I was able to finally get a 27 inch LCD monitor that I could use for my TV and use as a second PC monitor, and it had all the bells and whistles. I could replace that 2-ton box in the corner. But that was far from what I received.
The poor remote/menu designs made switching from different sources near impossible. I am referring to changing from DVI, VGA, S-Video and the component inputs. The display menu was hard to navigate and use. The display was horrible even after changing viewing formats 16:9 & 4:3 The connections for the DVI, VGA were a nightmare to connect.
I was additionally was able to compare the picture quality between my 27 inch TV and this monitor; the TV was better. Like I said, maybe I got the bad apple.
I was extremely disappointed; lucky for me the store took it back without a restocking fee.
Pros: Cheap. Thin. HDTV Ready. Cons: Looks bad up close, ugly, bad stretching and zoom features.
This is the poor man's LCD TV. It for is anyone that can't afford the Sharp Aquos, but wants to go flat panel. First, the picture quality is great, but only from about 10 feet back. The good thing is that there were many options to customize the picture to your liking. If you have bought this TV, make sure to adjust the video settings, it is worth it! CNET.COM has a great tutorial for beginners. The speakers on this are bland and ugly, as well as the frame. For some reason, they made the 27" television in the same frame as the 30", just a bigger border. Not as attractive. They probably saved a couple of bucks in not designing a different frame for the 27". If you get a good deal on this, go for it. Another model to consider is the new Olevia Kolin series. They look much better.
Pros: Bright, clean picture and really good sound. Great price! Cons: Bad picture zoom. Image is stretched horizontally. Don't bother using the picture zoom.
I brought this TV home and loved the bright, crisp picture. The digital filter really does its job! Good fast display. Sound is excellent!
However, when watching a standard cable signal that has the letterbox ratio, I tried to use the zoom feature to use more of the screen. The zoom on the Syntax Olevia is flawed in that it zooms in but also stretches the picture horizontally--making people seem short and fat. It's noticable with faces.
I wrote to Syntax about it and they replied that it's just how it is and there's nothing you can do. I've seen other brands' TVs and their zooms work fine. Syntax really needs to fix this.
Pros: Before it broke: Good Picture, low Price Cons: Hard to navigate the user menus without the remote.
Long Story Short, DVI Input broke after 7.5 months of good service. VGA Input has a synchronization problem that causes a fuzzy picture and random zone blurring. My device tests fine against a similar LCD Display, but from a different manufacture. Syntax Groups' Customer Service is very poor. Classic, no one answers the phone or returns calls. I would recommend you buy something else.
