Toshiba 20AF44 20 inch TV

Pros: Easy remote control and setup, lightweight, amazing picture, timer and sleep functions.
Cons: Remote control looks too much like the DVD one, also a Toshiba.

I bought this TV last Xmas and the picture is outstanding especially when using a Monster S-Video cable.
It is almost HD quality, especially when I watch the SDTV channels on cable or watch DVD's.I had bought a Sylvania TV first but after 3 days it started to BUZZ!, I ran back to Best Buy and upgraded to this for $189.00, all I can say is it was well worth it, even my wife said it looked sharper then the Sylvania and sounded better too.

Pros: Color Saturation, Sound Quality, Size, Flat Screen
Cons: Velocity Scan Modulation cannot be adjusted or turned off

The 20AF44 is a good looking TV, except for the exposed jacks on the front, which should be hidden behind a door, in my opinion.
The picture has nicely saturated colors, the sound is good, and the size is just right.
However, Toshiba did not include the ability to adjust or turn off Velocity Scan Modulation (VCM or VM). This is supposed to make the picture sharper but often results in a strange shimmer on vertical lines, especially with a white background. Sometimes this happens around the lapel of some shirts if the TV doesn't like the color!
I also have (had-I returned it), the 24 inch version of this TV and while it also had this problem it wasn't nearly as bad as this TV.
This effect is worse when playing back DVD's. Needless to say both TV's were returned. It's a shame because without this flaw (a very major flaw), both TV's would have been very good.
If Toshiba makes the VCM adjustable in the next version I will buy it. If not, I will buy another brand such as Panasonic.

Pros: Clear and sharp picture at a good price
Cons: had to take the TV out of the large shipping box to take it home

I needed a new TV. After some research I concluded that it was worth spending the extra money to get a good quality flat screen TV versus a budget 19 inch since you get a lot more for your money like MTS stereo, comb filter, 20 inch flat screen, 16:9 enhanced and more connector options for about $66 dollars more. It came down to a 20 inch Panasonic or Toshiba. Sony was way over-priced. I choose the Toshiba since it was cheaper and I went to Sears since they had it on sale for $190 (although B&H Photo had it for $180 but I didn't want to go into Manhattan). I wasn't disappointed when I got the TV home and tested it out. The picture was sharp and the sound was good.
