Whirlpool dehumidifier takes its job seriously!
by pet1950 ,Oct 20 '03
Pros: Does superb job & never had any problems/concerns with mine. Cons: Needs out-of-the-way corner to store as size commands respect. Good size unit.
This Whirlpool dehumidifier takes its work seriously by eliminating up to 40 pints of water every 24 hours. There is an overflow tank which I found needed emptying twice per day. True blessing to those who have asthma or other respiratory problem.
It is on coasters so that it can be rolled from one room to another without having to lift. This dehumidifier is quite heavy but you don't really notice since there should not ever be a need to lift when you can roll.
There is a "low" and "high" fan speed, a dryness control button which allows for settings from "off" through "normal" and then all the way up to "dryest" and "continuous." There is a light which illuminates when it is time to empty the "bucket." Bucket is easily removable for emptying and then slides right back into position. Not a problem. Have never had it overflow nor have I experienced any problems whatsoever with the unit.

Cabinet is Very Flimsy - Uncontrollable, Loud Rattle
by tkbrown007 ,Jul 08 '05
Pros: Seems to have a great fan, motor, compressor. Cons: Cabinet causes a very loud, constant, rattling noise whenever compressor is running.
The unit seems to perform its job well. However, if it is to be posted where people will be near, do not buy this unit. Its cabinet is made of very flimsy sheet metal and the base unit is further made of flimsy material in two pieces (causing further noise problems). It is so loud that one would need to yell just to carry on a conversation nearby.
I do not understand why Whirlpool would make such a good inner unit only to be surrounded by such a flimsy designed cabinet. My suggestion is do not buy this product. I tried two different units and had the same problems. I even had a service call. The serviceman could not find a solution, other than to get a differently designed model.

Whirlpool dehumidifier - "automatic" control does not work
by ferryja ,Jan 16 '05
Pros: Dries the air Cons: "Automatic" control does not work. Unit doesn't cycle off. Setting up drainage hose is awkward.
At first this dehumidifier seemed to work great - it took the moisture out of the air in my basement very effectively. Unfortunately it wouldn't stop. The basement was bone dry (humidity about 30% according to an electronic hygrometer), but no matter what level the humidifier controls were set to, it wouldn't ever cycle off. I returned the unit to Lowe's and exchanged it. The second one (same model) had the same defect, so I returned it for a refund. No matter what the controls say, this thing has only two functions: ON and OFF. I'm tired of carrying these things back and forth, and I'm going to try another brand.

Whirlpool Dehumidifier unreliable
by mor56gan ,May 14 '04
Pros: None Cons: Very unreliable. No product support from Whirlpool.
I have had two Whirlpool dehumidifiers.
The first one was fine except 2 years ago it was recalled.
I replaced the recalled one with a brand new Whirlpool.
The new one lasted only one season ( about 4mos). I have had the repair person to my house 3 times ( my cost) no longer under warranty. It still does not work and I have now totally given up and will replace it with another brand. Oh, and by the way. Whirlpool has been of no help and they are very difficult to deal with.
No more Whirlpool products for me.
