Lucky I don't need my legs to type this review :-) by travellingman7 ,Nov 24 '07
Pros: they get the job done Cons: space, friendliness, service
The seats are so cramped, which makes appreciation of any other factor impossible:
* The crew can do nothing to make your flight more comfortable
* The food sits on the tray in front of you for about 45 mins, further constricting your movement
* If the person in front wants to relax a little and recline, say good bye to watching anything on the television
I don't understand why Singapore Airlines can't sacrifice one or two rows in economy to make a little ectra leg-room. Their flights are more expensive than others, so surely they can still manage a profitable flight?
And lastly, the service itself isn't that great. There's a definite sense of walking through the motions, getting it done, without actually looking you in the eye or smiling genuinely (unless of course you're in business class! :-) I would prefer them to not smile at all, then to go through what is obviously a charade.
My overall impression - any of the other top tier Asian carriers are a better bet and better value for money than this mob.
Nothing to write home about... by singdude ,Nov 24 '07
Pros: efficiency Cons: friendliness, service, space, economy class
Singapore Airlines has got a good reputation for efficiency, and I guess for that one can't fault them. At the end of the day, getting from point A to B with little fuss is about as important a criteria as any.
However, if you assume that all of the top tier airlines are going to provide you with that same experience, the discussion becomes one of choice based on what they do above and beyond that.
Human interaction is not Singapore Airlines' strong suit - they will run you through the conveyor belt with the rest of them (for a higher price :-) BUT don't expect to be treated well when you're sitting in your cramped economy seat.
While I tend to make very few requests of the cabin crew, I do see the way they interact with other passengers in economy (as opposed to business) and I have to think "why are you even in a service industry if you're going to treat people like that?"
The BEST airline in the wold! by travelworld ,Mar 29 '05
Pros: Great service. Beautiful stewardesses uniforms, the stewards uniforms could do with a bit of updating. Cons: Wasn't able to choose seat until check-in. The service/food make up for it.
Recently flew SQ from LAX to Singapore (with a plane change in Japan), Singapore to Hong Kong, HK to Singapore, Singapore to Taiwan then back to LAX.
Impeccable service from the Stewards/Stewardesses..they are well groomed and in-shape (unlike American carriers) and are truly their to serve the customers (and for our safety of course).
Food selection was wonderful as was the tv monitors in front of every seat (even in coach). Nice selection of movies/shows to watch in different languages.
Pros: they fly regularly to different destinations Cons: promotion scam, late departure and arrival
Singapore airlines.
Singapore airlines promotions - 2 to go from Singapore to Shanghai in januari 2005 . I knew that they won't refund or change the tickets, but that you actually have to be physically in the plane together to use the tickets, even if one of the parties can't travel, went beyond me. Even that the price that we have paid was higher than the price of a single ticket, I couldn't go by myself on that plane. Customer service just told me to buy two new tickets. I guess that they gonna use the two empty seats on that plane to resell it. I just call that a scam. Now I fly with Garuda from Singapore to Shanghai, they are cheaper, always on time and nice staff. For me never again Singapore airlines.
Poor Service From Singapore Airlines Reservation Department (San Francisco) unprofessional! by naneiko ,May 20 '07
Pros: Thanks to the other staff who was more knowledgeable. Cons: Unprofessional Taiwanese staff, who should be educate better before put on case!
Horrible service!
As a Singaporean, I feel ashamed of the way they train their ground staff in San Francisco. This Taiwanese lady who was handling my call, insisted that I had to refund my ticket because the card I used to purchased was lost, and I told her the bank is issuing me with a new card and number. She flat out in my face tell me I cannot use the ticket because I lost my card, despite me telling her I have my passport, Singapore ID, and that I have been flying with Singapore Airlines for the last 4 years!
I had to deal with another lady who was much nicer, who was very professional about this, and told me all I had to do was produce bank statements from my bank which indicated I purchased the ticket (that particular portion) and my passport was all I needed.
This whole ordeal puts me off, and I will not fly Singapore Airlines again ever!
Pros: good food Cons: awful customer care, old planes.
Just flown Singapore Raffles Class Heathrow to Singapore. The worst experience of my life. My wife and I paid £4500 for our tickets and neither our seats worked! The electrics were out in both chairs (and ones around us) as well as that our reading lights didn't work and the video's kept freezing. So what did Singapore offer us in compensation? considering we had basically got economy style comfort for a business class fare....a free upgrade? ticket refund?..NO! $100 (US) vouchers off duty free only to be spent on the plane!...The lack of customer care was astounding they just didn't care.
Lives up to its reputation by travelerjun ,Jun 13 '05
Pros: Entertainment, food, flight-attendants, service Cons: Expensive, Waiting times at Singapore, don't give you frequent flyer miles on discount tickets, leg-space
The best airline I have flown: was on time, the food was great, and the entertainment simple unbeatable. Flight crew are attractive and helpful. Over 50 channels of movies in every language, sitcoms, news, travelogues, games, you name it. Made the 14 hour non-stop flight from San Francisco to Hong Kong much better than it could be. Good vegetarian food.
They have very good schedules from the US to South-east Asia (flights everyday) but not within Asia. Waiting times at the Singapore airports can get pretty boring, especially if you have seen Singapore already. I found the leg-room to be a little smaller than on other international airlines, but that could be only my imagination.
Not so good vegetarian meals by zzanzumer ,Nov 08 '03
Pros: great icecream for non-vego's Cons: worst vegetarian menu
As a frequent long haul vegetarian flyer, the quality of meals is important. Unfortunately when i selected vegetarian meals this is automatically registered as 'vegan'. So I received soya products instead of milk based. All meals were a variation of beans and to have the same mixture four times in a row is not the most appetising.
But even then, on one leg of the journey the soya was replaced with milk, so if i was a vegan, i would have been disappointed.
However all other services were excellent and recommended
First class service, even in coach by skygrrl ,Jun 29 '04
Pros: Everything!!! Cons: Price, but worth spending $300-500 more for an 18 hour flight
I flew from New York to Shanghai. LONG flight (18 hours!) Wonderful trip on an Airbus 340-500. Only 176 coach seats, will sitting areas and standing areas to stretch and move about. My coach seat was very (and surprisingly) comfortable. In-flight amenities galore. SIX (yes six) entree choices for dinner in coach! REAL food! Smiling flight attendants who actually SHOW UP when you press the call button, which is rare because they keep an eye on you. If they see your bottle of water getting low, they simply exchange it without being asked! A true pleasure to fly. I'm so dang happy I can't even type! If I had to complain, it would be that they ran out of Vera Wang perfume in the duty free cart, but made some wonderful recommendations for other stuff. If this is the biggest problem I run into with Singapore, then I am a permanent fan!
Pros: not many Cons: cost cutting may result in revenue cutting
We checked in for a flight from London to Manila, one of the check in staff called us over from the back of the queue to check us in and cheekily told us she was doing us a favor for doing that. The plane was very clean and the flight staff were excellent. The food was very much run of the mill and the soft drinks were budget Spanish brands.Wine was poured from large bottles and not the small individual bottles that you get on the better airlines. We changed the dates for the return flight and that involved two phone calls to the Manila office. The first call took more than two hours to get through as the line was constantly busy, the second call took sixty one calls to get through.I complained about the lack of people answering the phone and they they said they were cost cutting. They deserve to be out of business.
I have flown a fair few times with Singapore and am a member of their Frequent Flyer programme. Every flight I have taken with them has been a pleasure, attentive staff, excellent food, free flowing wine. Wonderful!
Tranist in Singapore is never a problem and when things do go slightly array, I have always found the staff to be willing to do their upmost to help.
The only thing I can say negatively about Singapore is being BUMPED!! I was a few hours late reconfirming for a flight from Singapore to Bali and I got bumped to the next day as the flight was full - hence missing out on a sun-soaked day on the beach!
Apart from that every flight of mine (not sure if i've just been lucky here!) has left on time with no hassles. I look forward to my next long-haul with them, and this time I think I may have enough flyer points to upgrade!
Pros: Good onflight service and entertainment. Cons: Rude ground service, non-existent hotline service, crappy Internet service, expensive.
There used to be a day that Singapore Airlines is the best in the world, and I used to be an absolutely adoring fan. That day passed 3 years ago when SQ lost a confirmed return ticket on their system, totally messed up my holiday and caused my girlfriend to be stranded in San Francisco. Then they followed up with a system failure at Changi Airport that caused a 4 hour delay to a very important flight. Then followed by 3 hours on the Krisflyer hotline waiting for someone to attend to me. And on and on the horror stories continue..
Right now Qantas, Northwest and Japan Airlines serve all my needs. I can totally empathize with all the other travelers who have complained about Singapore Airlines.
First Class treatment in Economy by marcaris ,Jan 14 '06
Pros: Excellent Inflight Entertainment, Good Food, Great Staff, Very helpful with problems Cons: None really. Leather seats on Economy would be nice.
I flew Economy from LAX to TPE on Singapore Airlines. It was the best flight I've even flown, especially for ones that cross the Pacific.
As soon as you board, they give you hot towels to refresh yourselves. The flight staff was superb: friendly, helpful and very cordial. The food was very good. Drinks (incl. wine) were offered many times.
The inflight entertainment is the best. There was on-demand movies, tv shows, documentaries in English, Chinese, Japanese and other languages. There was also lots of computer games which you can play with other passengers.
The flight was also on time. When my bags did not arrive on the same flight (due to Northwest's fault), Singapore quickly put a trace on it and provided me with some allowance. They were very helpful throughout the entire ordeal.
Best airline services I have ever had by skywalkerhcl ,Jul 04 '04
Pros: Service attitude, food, in-flight movies, business class seats. Cons: Nothing that I can think of.
I flew between U.S and Asia very frequently and I found that Singapore Airline provides the best services comparing to all the airlines that I have used. Their service attitude, food, in-flight movies, business class seats, are among the things I enjoy most.
Star Alliance no customer between Osaka and Taiwan by seamusepinions ,Jul 15 '05
Pros: Fly Osaka-Taiwan by JAL/ANA Cons: cannot earn mileage on Singapore airline Krisflyer program
Kansai airport(KIX) welcomes thousands of tourists from Taiwan into Nara,Kyoto and Osaka every year.
However, if you are a Star Alliance loyal passenger, sorry, you cannot earn mileage on this sector, even you are on JAL/ANA plane. Only JAL/ANA member can earn mileage on this sector. Shrewd business but negative to consumers.
If you are a frequent travler on Osaka-Taipei route, Eva airways and Asiamiles of Cathay airways can let you earn mileage a lot better, better than nothing.
Pros: Horny stewardess, attractive stewardess. Cons: A bit clumsy.
I flew on the London Heathrow - Singapore Changi - Bandar Seri Begawan route. As u all know that London heathrow is very congested there, but take-off was not a problem. There was no delay. But on air, I ask for a hot coffee, but they accidently spilled it on my shirt and it was burning. They apologised for it but a few hours later, I asked for another hot coffee, the same thing happened. And that time was prior to landing. I went to the bathroom as the stewardess told me that its one hour till we land. When I was in the bathroom, someone told me that we're landing n I was cleaning my shirt. I rushed out to my seat n the stewardess apologised me for the wrong info. The rest of the flight was ok I guess.
To Maldives with Singapore Airlines by tjgh1168 ,Feb 12 '09
Pros: arrives on time Cons: service is not natural lately loosing luggage frequently
I constantly fly Singapore Airlines for both business and pleasure, mainly on the business class . Belong to their PPS frequent flyer club Singapore - Maldives and Singapore Barcelona are my most frequent sectors for work . The Singapore - Maldives flight has allot to improve on and the aircraft and service has only deteriorated over the years . Old aircraft , poor service in the last 4 flights I have taken The last flight I took , the air quality was very poor, entertainment service was not working ( very quick to provide a 100 US shopping voucher as a service recovery) and food service was done in a very rushed way but efficient . I returned home ill and later diagnosed with Pneumonia . 3 out of 5 flights Singapore to Barcelona , SQ lost my luggage . SQ is a great airline if you would like to get to your destination on time and Changi is a fantastic airport however, do be careful, it is not as good as it's reputation on certain sectors
