There has to be another airline
by srfs ,Jun 26 '07
Pros: N/A
Cons: Bad customer service, bad food, bad administrative staff, bad name, bad breath, etc.
I was leaving Orange County and flying to Seattle. Our plane was delayed four hours. Finally got on the plane and made it to Seattle. Then in Seattle, Horizon made an error and I had to take another flight. The other flight was delayed another four hours, also the gate was changed 7 times (no joke). I was trying to get on other flights as standby but to no avail. The employees were very rude. When I finally got on the plane, the flight attendant (Paula, flight 366)went to grab my carry-on. I had some fragile stuff inside the bag and I asked her to let me move my bag. She said "I can do anything I want" and proceeded to grab my bag, which she broke my headphones (complaint still pending). To go from Orange County, CA to Spokane, WA took over 18 hours. I will never fly with this airline! I am mortified with what I experienced today.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!
by flyers67 ,Sep 02 '08
Pros: NOTHING!
Cons:

Unhelpful, rude, sarcastic, we were never ever treated like a customer.....so disappointing!

I'm so drained by my flight and my experience with Alaska Airlines, that I'm unable to write anything else but how emotionally drained I am from having flown with them. Way to go Southwest...I will never fly Alaska EVER EVER EVER again! They changed our gate at the last minute forcing us to scramble with our one year old to a gate clear across the airport. They failed to be any help once we finally got to the correct gate and were trying to board the plane, fumbling around with our one year old while they barked at us to hurry up (so embaressing, rude and unhelpful to say the very least). To top it off our bag was lost with everything we needed for our one year old son. I had to BEG for an "I'm sorry for the inconvenience mam". We are highly unimpressed to say the least. WILL NEVER FLY WITH THEM AGAIN!!!!!

Good Job Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air
by idawmn ,Aug 31 '08
Pros: Great customer service
Cons: None

I had the opportunity to travel from Boise to Juneau this past week. Wonderful trips on both Horizon and Alaska. Crew members were very friendly and had a great sense of humour. Nice smooth flights.

Unscheduled headaches
by ummdash ,Jan 03 '04
Pros: Good advertising
Cons: The flight you get may not be the one you booked
We bought tickets on Alaska specifically because they offered direct flights to the city we wanted. The flight was more than an hour late to leave, and at the airport we found out they added an additional stop -- adding hours, headaches and lost sleep to our travel. Not the way we want to travel....

Alaska is the worst
by busytraveler ,Sep 15 '07
Pros: A company that probably cares but has many employees that don't.
Cons: Rude gate agents in Seattle.
My experience with Alaska proves once again that it's all about the employees, not about the company. Alaska typically has the worst service at the gates of all the airlines I fly. Nevertheless, there are exceptions and the post by Mercatoria proves the point that individual employees make all the difference. I work for a an international service provider and we worked with a company that taught our employees what our organizational promise was and then gave us training to deliver the promise. It was extremely effective and our service department now looks at things very differently. I think they mentioned they routinely work with a major airline, and I know it was not Alaska. This is a link to their web site if anyone at Alaska is listening. www.montanabranddevelopment.com. I didn't work directly with them so I don't know what they did, but our service people seem to "get it" and it shows.
Alaska, get your staff fixed and I may start flying you other than when I "have to".

Alaskan name and no deicing equipment?
by lawsuit-coming ,Jan 09 '04
Pros: Cheap fares, I suppose
Cons: They don't get you there!!! Plus their airport help is surly, rude, and horrible.
Have used Alaska/horizon for many trips..... Until now! Flight into Seattle delayed. Got to Seattle to connect to LA and found they canceled almost every flight due to not having deicing equipment. (Every other airline was still flying.)

Alaska would not (for three days!) offer any hospitality, a room a toothbrush, a glass of water even. The employees (except one) were surly, rude, nasty even. Finally said that even the next days flight would be canceled, so I went to Southwest's ticket counter and bought a flight ON THE NEXT PLANE to LA. Of course I was told that a refund was not due to me because the cause was weather. But if it was weather, why could I book and fly immediately with Southwest?

Needless to say, I will avoid them at all costs in the future. Southwest.... Please start servicing Kalispell!!!! We need ya.

Alaska Air - Great Airline!
by fudge23 ,Apr 10 '04
Pros: Safe, very clean, courteous staff and inexpensive.
Cons: None
We needed to go to Portland Oregon from Los Angeles and were referred to Alaska Airlines by Orbitz as they had very inexpensive flights.

We booked it on line and were issues in E Ticket. Once we were at the LAX we checked in at the Alaska Air Ticket Counter. By using this method we were able to bypass lines of patrons who were checking in via the traditional method.

The airplane was a Douglas 737 and was very clean. The seats were wide and comfortable. The flight crew was very friendly. We had two drink breaks with a wide variety of beverages.

The captain kept the passengers well informed of location, arrival time, landmarks that we flew over and any turbulence.

I highly recommend Alaska Airlines and would fly them anytime. They are safe, clean and professional. Wonderful experience. Who could ask for more?

Alaska Airlines has terrible delays
by monsewer ,Aug 02 '07
Pros: Cheap Fares
Cons: Terrible Delays. Do not use for business purposes!
The last three flights I've taken with Alaska have been delayed, including the three hour delay I'm experiencing right now.

I fly regularly and this is the worst airline I've ever experienced. It seems as though they don't have enough planes to rotate out of service to keep their fleet running smoothly. I've read many posts about delays because of maintenance issues and even several newspaper stories in the main stream media.

Good in flight; Bad otherwise
by ksaddoris ,Jun 15 '05
Pros: In the air, Alaska is friendly, comfortable and offers nice amenities (digi-player!)
Cons: Extremely poor phone wait times and lack of clarity on web services
If you can interact entirely, smoothly over the internet, Alaska is great. But if you have to talk to them over the phone, your sunk. First, they don't tell you on line what you can and can't do online so you waste your time trying, only to be told you must call in. When you call in, you are put on hold for 15-30 minutes. Then, you talk to someone who says you have to talk to another area and hold another 15-30 minutes. And the kicker is, the whole time, they are telling you to use the web. You can't because they don't offer all the services there. Their service is completely unacceptable. Who has time to wait on hold like that? Again, if you have no problems or unusual needs, Alaska is fine. In my case, my problem was caused by them canceling their newest direct routes from Seattle to DFW. Again, pretty poor planning on their part to plan a route and cancel it. No wonder airlines can't stay in business.

Flying Alaska is a drag!
by vselwyn ,Feb 27 '08
Pros: Airplane always manages to take off and land properly even if it is often delayed.
Cons: Crappy boxed lunch for $5, unpleasant and demoralized flight attendants, late flights, delays...
I fly up to once a week (at least twice a month) on business with Alaska and am continually astonished in the decline in service. I have to wonder what kind of business sense it makes to create such an unpleasant travel experience. The last thing I want to do when I have time off is fly anywhere. Crappy boxed lunch for $5, unpleasant and demoralized flight attendants, late flights, delays. The worst is the fact that they hawk credit cards on every flight to their truly captive audience. I suppose all airlines are bad--just that I fly Alaska the most and it is pure drudgery.

Maginal
by popper123456 ,Mar 03 '08
Pros: The flight was clean and the price and schedule were okay.
Cons: The food was poor. The mileage program resets too soon to be useful.
The price and schedule were okay.
I have low expectations for airline food these days, but they managed to fall below those. I paid $5 for a cheeseburger that reminded me of one I had at a drive in movie theather.
On a 3.5 hour international flight I was thinking some in flight entertainment would be provided, but there was none.
I fly occasionally, and will use the same airline if I can, but after 24 months inactivity, they cancel you previous Mileage Plan account. Filing on all the forms and trying to track it ended up being a waste of time.

The Bare Minimum
by jollyjess ,May 08 '05
Pros: - lots of leg room -clean
Cons: - no food, you have to pay for certain drinks, and no in flight entertainment
A few weeks ago I flew Alaska Airlines from Vancouver, BC to Newark, NJ and I was shocked at what their consumers will put up with. Being a Canadian resident I usually fly Air Canada or British Airways but I purchased a vacation package through expedia and had no choice but to fly on an American Airline. In total I had to fly on four different Alaska Airlines carriers, due to transfers, and all four did not offer food or in flight entertainment! How is this possible? No food on a 5 hour flight! Oh, wait they have food for purchase( who pays for food on an airplane?) Alaskan Airline's business class is equivalent to flying coach on Air Canada. I admit we got to our destination safely but I probably won't fly with them again unless I have no other choice.

Inconsiderate flight attendants
by emarsh69 ,Apr 30 '05
Pros: Clean airplane, short flight
Cons: Airline obviously only cares about filling seats!
On my vacation return flight from Seattle, my wife and I were sitting in the window and middle seats. The aisle seat was empty...for a moment. At the last minute a family gets on board and they moved some people around so they could sit close. Well, one of those moves was putting a very large lady in the aisle seat next to me. She was actually pushing me out of my seat! I sat the entire flight leaning to the side on my wife fighting for a bit of space. They refused to answer my questions of their policy on accommodating large passengers and why they didn't accommodate her. The best they could do was give me a $50 certificate for my next flight. I won't use them again!

no customer service
by neal0000 ,Mar 28 '06
Pros: none
Cons: nonexistent customer service incompetent baggage handlers
I attempted to change my reservation within 24 hours of making it, 3 weeks from the departure date. Online, the price listed for a new reservation was $497.20 vs $719.20 for the prior reservation a $222 savings but they refused to honor the price difference (What do you think their policy would be if it was more expensive?)

Their customer service staff refused to work with me in any way. In fact, the several representatives and a manager that I spoke with informed me that "The computer system takes your money and we can’t give it back no matter the price difference." It was obvious to me that my satisfaction was of little consequence to them, regardless of which representative I was speaking to.

I will never fly Alaska again!

tiny planes, big adventures
by kmarks81 ,Mar 13 '07
Pros: quick flight, get an entire can of diet coke
Cons: you have to pay for everything and the stewardess' are lazy
It was my first trip on Alaskan this past week. It went pretty well, the staff was really friendly, and gave me the WHOLE can of diet coke instead of just a glass like everyone else. They even seemed suprised when i said thank you and told them all to have a good day. Apparently i have good manners. The downfall? I had to PAY for food if I wanted to eat while I flew across the country. No in-flight movie. No free food. Didn't even offer me a tissue as a I was bawling. But I guess that wasn't in their job description.
