Pyramids Where The Spirits of Ancient Gods and Kings Live...

by mrkstvns mrkstvns is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Hotels & Travel, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Oct 18 '01
Pros: Savage jungle setting where Mayan tradition lives on
Cons: Far from everything
Groucho Marx once said, "Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana." I always liked that saying, and I sure do identify with the part about time flying like an arrow. I couldn't agree more! My trip to Guatemala is almost over -- just two...

TEMPLES IN THE MIST, TIKAL GUATEMALA

by JAMES23 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Dec 10 '03
Pros: Fantastic glimpse into history.
Cons: Maybe a little off the beaten track, but then is that a con?
The climb up the slippery ancient stonework still partially covered in vegetation is tiring. On the way up even in the dim pre dawn light your senses are bombarded. The thick smell of the plant life competes with the noises from the jungle around you. ...

Tikal- the lost city in the jungle

by wackeddout , Jun 04 '04
Pros: Spectacular, outlandish Mayan architecture in awesome jungle setting.
Cons: Heat and mosquitoes; Long trip to get to.
There are a lot of cool Mayan ruins, and I've been to many of them, but Tikal is perhaps the coolest of all. Set in the remote Peten jungle frontier region, it isn't especially easy to get to, but if you're in Guatemala, Belize, or Mexico's Yucatan, ...

Tikal: The adventure of getting there and back

by Shanti , May 24 '00
Pros: Tikal is well worth any hassles!
Cons: The public bus system is extremely difficult to use and minibuses are pricey
I once heard that adventure is another term for romanticized danger and difficulties. Our trip to Tikal definately qualifies.

It's scenic, but be prepared...

by packdragon , Jun 15 '01
Pros: Huge ruins, scenic forests
Cons: HOT, humid and far
Tikal is a remote park of Guatemala that is very hard to get to by land, especially during the rainy season. The best way is by air (if not the only way). We did a package tour, booked by a travel agent in the capital city. It included airfare, a...

Tikal is Astounding

by ghult , Sep 24 '99
Pros: mystical, beautiful, unusual
Cons: hot, far
I went to Tikal during the last leg of my Guatemala trip in September of 1998, and I believe that ancient jungle city is one of the most magical places on Earth. We stayed in the skanky island city of Flores the first night--the hotel there was truly...

A Lost City

by aliciapunker , Aug 27 '09
Pros: The scenery is absolutely amazing and truly magical.
Cons: It takes hours to arrive from the capital to Peten (where Tikal is).
Tikal is an exciting place to visit for both constant and amateur travelers. As you arrive you are transported to a new world. The sun peaks behind Temple of the Jaguar making it taller than life. The grass is green and since Tikal is in a jungle you ...

Tikal, "El Mundo Perdido"

by rmdlwa , Nov 27 '99
Pros: Beautiful, Wild Jungle, Massive Ruins
Cons: HOT AND HUMID
Well, I figure it is time to update this review on Tikal and hopefully make it much more helpful/informative for those who take the time to read it. I work professionally as a tour guide leading groups from the United States down through Mexico,...

Tikal via overland from Belize -HIGHLY recommended!

by rocky69 , Oct 28 '08
Pros: Great scenery, opportunity to experience Central American countryside. Costs less than flight, goes door-to-door.
Cons: Longer journey time (but compared with airport waiting, perhaps only an hour or two longer).
This is a recommendation for going to Tikal overland from Belize City. After our vacation in Belize we had planned to take the short flight from Belize City to St Elena, the closest airport to Tikal. However, in the latest round of the historical ...
