Pros: Great natural beauty! Cons: Well, it's California so there's always the traffic issue!
Although I recently moved out of California to escape the hustle and bustle, I do consider it an awesome state to visit, with great natural beauty and many scenic getaways that won't break your travel budget. In the 15 years I lived there I had the ...
Pros: Lots to see and do for all ages Cons: Ever expanding urban terrain is sometimes overwhelming
Having grown up in Southern California, it is a place close to my heart, although every time I go back to visit, it becomes more foreign to me, with all of the growth and expansion happening every day. ...
Pros: Great weather! Lovely plants! Cons: High crime rate, felt subhuman at times.
Earthquakes! Smog!
California is where I was born. I grew up less than 5 miles from Watts, the area with the riots in the 1960s. Shortly before they happened, we moved to a Hispanic neighborhood, Pico Rivera.

This sleepy little town, in the middle of California is the Hershey Chocolate Factory of the west! We discovered it on our vacation driving through the San Joaquin Valley of Central California!
Pros: Visually impressive building and decor Cons: Abysmal service, horrible food, expensive prices
Surprisingly, this lonely restaurant at the end of Powell street was packed. For those unfamiliar with the area, Powell is on a "mini-peninsula" so one drives past several docks on either side of the road before arriving at this restaurant.
Pros: A worthy side trip for travelers traveling up and down the Golden Cons: It'd be nice if there was more of it.
If Hans Christian Andersen were to find himself in Solvang, California, he'd probably say, "let's eat." Then the Danish writer of fairy tales would wonder what the heck happened since he died over two hundred years ago.
Pros: Food, Children's Activities, Wine Pavilion Cons: Very Warm, Can Be Windy, Lots of Walking
The fertile delta, just west of Stockton, CA produces more asparagus than any other location on earth. It is fitting, then, that Stockton is home to The Asparagus Festival. In 1999, the California Department of Tourism rated this festival 7th in its'...
Pros: interesting variety of wineries Cons: probably out of the way for most people, not many other attractions
When most people think of California wine country they think north of San Francisco. Places like Napa, or maybe Sonoma. They don't think Southern California. But maybe they should, because a small area around Temecula is a recognized viticultural area...

Daytripper or weekend warrior, Santa Cruz is a feast for the senses and a mellow detour from the treadmills of life. This beach community's population ebbs and flows with tourist season. One question,...
Pros: Modern and clean surroundings, fast, efficient service Cons: Food is not up to par - appears to be aimed at those with little or no experience with good Chinese food
Ho Chow Restaurant on Warm Springs Blvd., Fremont just South of Mission was recommended to us, recently. We had to go down to Frys Electronics Superstore, Fremont and that was a handy location nearby so we ducked in. Bad idea! It turned out to be a...
Pros: All are moderate in price and represent great price/quality value for the consumer. The food is excellent and consistent in all these places. Cons: Ambiance is not the greatest, but all are comfortable.
There are a number of really good "finds" in this area.

Pros: Wine, wine, wine, and food, food, food, and a smattering of art. Great views, too. Cons: Scary drive on Pacific Coast Highway. Better to be a passenger.
Three days in San Francisco first. Rain, rain, rain. Disappointing, but the Golden Gate Bridge is still orange. Fisherman's Wharf is still touristy. But the dim sum! The dim is the sum of its parts! Yank Sing is where to have it.
Big Bear Lake is touted as “Southern California’s resort for all seasons” and the moniker fits superbly. Whether you are mountain biking around the lake during the summer or barreling down the slopes of Bear Mountain during the winter, Big Bear Lake...
“Welcome one and all to a night of feast and show unlike any you have ever seen.” You may remember this line or something similar to it from Jim Carrey’s movie “The Cable Guy” preceding probably one of the funniest scenes I have ever witnessed in a...
