Pros: Nature: animals, plants, and water interacting Cons: Slow pace; not easy to get around.
Like no place else on earth, the Everglades offers a view into an earlier time. The river of grass is a showcase for animal and plant life on a very intimate scale, but large enough that you can lose yourself in it.
The 'glades covers the...

Pros: Visit a unique Ecosystem Cons: Bugs aren't actually all that tasty
There are two things you should be absolutely sure to bring with you when going to visit the Everglades: sunscreen and bug repellant. If you leave either one behind, you're going to regret it later. (I came off the airboat with a nasty sunburn, as I...

Pros: excellent signage of medicinal plants, boardwalk, museum Cons: didn't have long enough to explore it all

Pros: A chance to touch the Earth Cons: Mosquitoes will try to touch you back

Pros: Beauty; fantastic boating environment Cons: Extremely primitive accomodations
Florida is a state teeming with life. You see this in the lush vegetation, so dramatically different from the arid California environment. You see this in the roadkill appearing hideously on Florida's roads. And you see this in the Everglades more...

Both times we've been to the Everglades -- once in spring, and once in winter -- our favorite part of the trip has been Eco Pond.
It doesn't seem to show up on many maps. Certainly, it doesn't appear on the Motorist's Guide to the Everglades....

Pros: Beautiful, cheap, easy, relaxing Cons: Watch out for the alligators!
Visiting the Everglades was one of the most uplifting trips IÕve ever taken. I went on my own, and as a single female New Yorker who hates driving, I was very nervous about the trip, the driving and being on my own. The driving turned out to be the most...
