Georgia Guidestones

by tinasamuels Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 19 '00
Pros: mysterious
Cons: none
Review Topic:  Sights & Attractions

The Georgia Guidestones reminds most visitors of Stonehenge. The four granite stones are as much a mystery here in Georgia as they are in England.

Located 7 miles north of...

Athens, GA: Gardens, Tacos, Cemeteries, and Good Coffee

by amerpie , Aug 13 '00
Pros: good food, history, pedestrian friendly
Cons: Have you ever been to Georgia in August?
My 17 year-old-son and I just spent an enjoyable weekend in Athens, Georgia. We ate some good food, saw some interesting sites, and managed not to get arrested. A combination of those factors usually means an enjoyable time was had by all and this was...

Highlights of a one-day tour of Athens

by signeann , Jul 29 '08
Pros: We saw the highlights of Athens, without having to walk a lot.
Cons: We didn't like the long bus ride picking up people before the tour actually started.
We opted to be picked up by the tour bus at our hotel Titania to start the tour of Athens, only to find out we could have walked about four blocks to where the tour actually started and slept another hour. It took us an hour and fifteen minutes of ...

by Roboslobin , Nov 21 '99
Pros: cheap, lots to do
Cons: try to avoid game days
I have lived in and around Athens for the past few years and have learned the ins and outs of this small but very entertaining city.

Pros: Natural scenery, culture, football, education
Cons: Traffic, narrow streets, lack of parking
ATHENS, Ga. -- Mountain views and cold brews. Culture of all kinds and learning for the mind.
Welcome to Athens, Ga., home of the University of Georgia and a lifestyle that's eclectic, fulfilling and sometimes, downright wild.

Botanical Gardens of Georgia

by jprathe , May 11 '00
Pros: Great trails, rose garden, beautiful setting
Cons: Bugs, heat on sunny days (hike through the woods for shade)
The Botanical Gardens of Georgia are located on Milledge Avenue just outside of Athens. The Gardens are huge, filled with many beautifully landscaped gardens and walking trails. A river runs through the wooded areas adjacent to the conservatory....

North Georgia Delights

by Parkwoody , Aug 07 '00
Pros: Scenic, modest cost, interesting history
Cons: much driving on slow roads
On a recent traipse through North Georgia my wife and I discovered two delightful spots that would reward anyone with a couple of days to visit: Athens and Dahlonega.

Athens, of course, is home to the University of Georgia, which highly...

want to be an alcoholic? move to athens!

by paccookie , Jul 19 '00
Pros: pretty city, plenty of good restaurants and stores
Cons: game days, perpetually drunk students
I lived in Athens for a short time when I was attending the University of Georgia. The city itself isn't too bad, if you like to spend most of your time at bars. The downtown area is nice to look at (until the bongo players and other assorted weirdos...

Living in Athens

by clovegirl , Jan 01 '00
Pros: friendly environment
Cons: Living here is not that cheap
Good morning, would-be Athenians.
Athens, Georgia, home of UGA and many bars may be your cup of tea for visits, however living here IS a different story. If you have an idea for a new business you should do well (while the students are here)...

Okay to visit, wouldn't want to live there!

by Cathlinsmom , Feb 08 '00
Pros: It's a free country
Cons: clay, boring, not a family place
My MIL moved to Athens soon after we came back to the east coast from California. What a difference. Athens is clay, clay, clay. We visited there several times and even moved there for 6 months but I couldn't wait to get back to South Carolina! My...

Athens GA - Eat, drink, shop and be merry (then drink more)

by shanebryant , Jun 01 '00
Pros: Great shopping and great food. Home of the 'Dawgs
Cons: Traffic gridlock on home football game days
Athens offers many of the things you'd expect to find in a large city, but has less traffic and is easier to get around in (UNLESS you come on a day when the 'Dawgs are playing a home football game). Downtown Athens is full of bars, clubs, restaurants,...
