Have an urge to workout at 2 in the morning???
by torres1856 ,Apr 25 '04
Pros: clean environment, tons of equipment, always open (except certain holidays), good staff on hand
Cons: fitness trainers always trying to get you to buy training
Not many people do take it to the extreme but it is nice to know that you do have the opportunity to work out whenever you want. I have been a member with 24 hour fitness since the age of 12 (family fitness back then)and i am now creeping up on my tenth year. The price is just fine compared to other fitness chains I have worked out at. The gym equipment is new and state of the art. You could go for a weeks using the different equipment and still not use everything. 24 hour fitness is great about having a clean environment and weights almost always racked. The fitness trainers are also there to lend a helping hand if you need it, of course they are trying to sell you fitness training but you cant blame them because it is a business after all.

PLEASE CLEAN!
by hovihats ,Jan 01 '07
Pros: LOTS OF CARDIO EQUIPMENT
Cons: THE STAFF DOES NOT CLEAN THE EQUIPMENT OR ENFORCE THE CLEAN AFTER USE RULE!
I WORK OUT AT THE AUSTIN 24 HOUR FITNESS, HANCOCK CENTER. I GET A GOOD WORKOUT, BUT I ALSO GOT AN INFECTION! THIS CENTER PROVIDES ONE DISINFECTANT BOTTLE FOR THE WHOLE FITNESS AREA! NO ONE WIPES DOWN THE EQUIPMENT AFTER USE. IT IS REALLY DISGUSTING. I HAVE FOUND TISSUES WITH BODY FLUIDS IN THE DRINK HOLDERS. NONE OF THE EMPLOYEES WALK AROUND TO CHECK THE FLOOR. I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED, AS THE MEMBERSHIP IS NOT CHEAP!

24 hr fitness should and can do better
by jim91387 ,Aug 11 '06
Pros: Membership valid in the different cities I travel; they are open at any hour.
Cons: Better equipment maintenance; Change facility maintenance to the early AM hours.
I've been a member at 24hr fitness for several years and have used different 24hr fitness locations in California (Canyon Country, Oxnard), Nevada (4-different Las Vegas Locations), and Washington (Seattle area). My local gym (Canyon Country) like many is crowded in the mornings and it's typical to find a situation like yesterday and again today where I could see that at least three machines in the area of the treadmill I was using were out of order. I also find it bothersome that, while they are open 24hrs, that I have to workout next to a someone running a Vaccum at 6am, long after the gym has already gotten busy for the morning (I found this same situation recently at a Las Vegas location as well)

24 Fitness Dallas review
by rb1325 ,Sep 01 '05
Pros: Plenty of locations, open 24 hours. Except old "Q" locations. Updated equipment.
Cons: They hire people who have no people skills.
24 hour fitness came into the Dallas area and over took all
gyms. The forced real gyms out of business. They hire
young college guys who spend more time trying to pick up girls. If I am on the treadmill next to a young lady, here comes the so called "fitness experts" and try to line a up date for the weekend. They spend more time looking at themselves in the mirror.
No they want give prices over the phone for memberships, they hammer you for an enrollment fee. Most of the gyms have the same equipment, they are clean Mon-Fri. One the weekends it is another issue. The bathrooms smell of urine, the sinks are dirty. I work out at 2 Carrollton locations, Lewisville and Addison. The Addison location is just too small.

Frozen
by urhistory ,Oct 17 '06
Pros: Lots of equipment. Friendly staff
Cons: Pool to cold. The women's shower and restrooms are always a mess.
24 hr fitness center in Fremont,Ca is good. However the pool is to cold and I see people complaining about the pool while they are in the water but I don't know if they ever complain to the staff. I even seen one woman wear rain gear in the pool just to keep from getting the cold wet water on her body. I hope Fremont staff will adjust the pool temperature. I see more people in the Hot tub than in the pool.

24 hour fitness Fontana, California
by joanne_232 ,Oct 20 '04
Pros: The hours
Cons: Classes aren't challenging, machines stay broken or squeaky without maintenance and aren't the highest quality
I was a member of this gym twice. First, as a child I was forced to go to the gym. Then, as an adult I wanted and started to enjoy being in shape. Now that I have worked at an Omni gym I know there is much more quality available.

High Heat drives member away
by segue1122 ,Oct 24 '06
Pros: Convenient locations. Variety of equipment.
Cons: TOO HOT!!!! Empathetically challenged staff regarding customer complaints.
I have been to several 24 hour fitness facilities in the Seattle area. All have been too hot for me to tolerate for more than 30 minutes. I have been told by management that no one else has complained about this and it appears to be my problem only.
I am new to 24 Hour Fitness and started to buy into it being my problem as I am pre-menopausal. Thanks for the opinions on this site I realize this is a bigger problem than my raging hormones.
Due to management's deceptive handling of this issue, blaming me and the temperatures outside, I will not remain a member of this gym.
Other gyms offer competitive prices that include proper ventilation.

24 Hour Sign Up Experience
by mcdboeing ,Jan 23 '04
Pros: More locations nationwide, plus a few international locations.
Cons: Quality of gyms vary like the prices.
Trying to join 24 Hour Fitness was worse than trying to buy a used car. They'll never give you a straight answer and they use questionable sales techniques. I had one try to bribe me with baseball tickets, but the best price he said he could offer was about $100 bucks more expensive.

Cheapest price as of 1/23/04 was $853(plus tax) for 4 years and $49/year after that. Monthly price is $179 down and $27 or $29 a month (plus first & last month). If you know a current member, you can add on to their membership with $100 down and $22 a month (plus first & last month ). Prices can change on a daily basis and rate by location, even for the same nationwide membership.

Since I travel a lot joining 24 Hour Fitness was my best choice. But I noticed that the quality of the gyms vary. Active Clubs are tiny. Sport Clubs may or may not include a pool & basketball court. Ultimate/Mega Clubs which have everything, of course at an additional price & is not part of the all club access membership. So their terminology of all club access is technically false advertising.

Fraud Customer Rep and Irrresponsible behaviour
by t_tsatish ,Apr 11 '07
Pros: Able to work out
Cons: Take everthing in written. Don;t agree to opt for Automatic deduction
I joined Bellevue hrs Fitness review. On my first vist the cusotmer service rep was very polite and friendly provided me all the junk review and different payment options.

He promised me that i can degrade my membership any time so i opted for the best membership avalivale. After few months i observeed that i was not using Gym much so wanted to degrade my Membership. I call the toll free no and the customer care rep said i can downgrade it to only one level at one time and be in that for six month to down grade further. Which is totally rediculus written no where in the document.

Then they offered me first month free which was not done for first 5 months even after several reminders.

Then i was charged some 24$ for no good reason. when i called the customer care she said its not in their list. and need to send the statement copy.

OVer all the managemetn is very irresponsible and rules are made to cheat people.

Needs a Good Cleaning!
by ellabear ,Nov 26 '07
Pros: Membership price is negotiable and fees are reasonable.
Cons: They need to spend more focus and cleaning the place.
I've been a member of the 24 Hour Fitness in Castro Valley, CA since 2002. It is convenient and has all of the basic equipment needed for a good workout. Unfortunately, it is not the cleanness gym I have ever been too. The equipment is dirty. The showers often smell. I recently acquired a staph infection and the doctor and I narrowed down the gym as the place I acquired this "gift". Be careful to wipe down the equipment prior to use and wash your hands thoroughly after your workout. I do wish they would spend a little more care in keeping the facility a tad bit cleaner. They have installed several stations throughout the gym with disinfectant spray bottles so that you can clean your equipment prior to or following your workout. I have found these stations to be either out of paper towels or the bottles have been empty. At least they're trying? I would highly suggest using them when you can.

24hour fitness is much too crowded
by edshvart ,Apr 02 '05
Pros: Good facilities if you actually get to use them.
Cons: Can't actually use facilities because of extreme overcrowding.
24 hour fitness oversells their membership by a wide margin. They seem to care little about existing members (i.e. those that have already paid a large upfront
membership fee) and focus entirely on new membership sales. My local 24hour fitness gym in Austin, TX is extremely overcrowded to the point of being unusable at least during conventional exercise hours (I have not checked at 5am
as suggested by one 24hour fitness manager). Attempting to resolve this issue with 24 hour fitness management has been futile.

Deceptive Billing Practices
by dgwg_west ,Jun 20 '06
Pros: Excellent gym in Austin, Texas
Cons: Deceptive Billing and contracts Customer Service Rude and Unhelpful
I canceled my membership to 24 Hour Fitness on May 31, 2006 because I was moving to San Antonio, Texas from Austin, Texas. 24 Hour Fitness does not have any facilities in San Antonio. My credit card was automatically charged on June 15, 2006 for the canceled membership. 24 Hour Fitness maintains that I must cancel 30 days prior to my "billing date" in order to not be charged for the next month. I feel this practice is deceptive and unfair, as no where on my "Transaction Receipt" does it state that 30 days notice is required. Also, I did not use any of their facilities for the entire month of June, as there are none of their gyms in my current city. Yet I was charged as if I did when I did not. I feel it is unfair that they charged me and received my money and did not deliver any services. The customer service agent I spoke with on the phone said that my membership cancellation had been processed on June 1, 2006, yet I was charged 14 days later.

I just wanted to warn people that this is a potential problem that they may encounter.

Read your membership policy carefully
by sg1234 ,Jul 24 '07
Pros: Great trainers (atleast mine)
Cons: Crowded and bad membership policy
I used 24 hours fitness at Bellevue, WA for two months prior to my wedding :) The instructor was great and everyone was impressed at the results :). However, I changed jobs recently and my employer offers free membership at a different place. When I called to cancel my membership, I was shocked to hear that they require a 30 day notice to cancel memberships. Really? I am used to businesses offering me a refund on the prorated amount I will not be using. To require a 30 day advance notice is totally absurd. Though I canceled it today (7/24), I am still set to pay the next payment on 8/20 which will keep my membership active till October. Rather absurd.

Is it worth any amount of monthly fees?
by broomfielder ,Jan 16 '09
Pros: NoCrowdsBetween7and8am, PlentyOfEmptyLockers, NiceHotWaterInShower, GoodSmellingSoap, Plenty of choices in resistance training
Cons: Broken cardio equipment; dirty and smelly facility; lazy staff; patronsAllowedToBreakRules leavingGymBagsOnTheFloor
My fitness goals are to bulk-up and belly-down in the next few months. After that, just more refining and strength building.

In support of my goals are the pros. Working against me are the cons. Here are my 2 biggest complaints:

Facility really makes me sick: Patrons work out with the cold and flu. Dripping, coughing, sneezing on us healthy people. Disgusting, selfish, and rude. Go home.

Big-Corp attitude: I asked attendent to refill paper towel dispenser. She only replied, "The night crew is supposed to do that." The men's locker room smells terrible and the floor is muddy... yes, I said muddy. The same old dirt and debris has been sitting there for days and days. I asked the front desk if they could clean it. Her response was, "We have a new cleaning guy." ... uhm... what?

Why I am staying: Overall, I can achieve my fitness goals with a few of my own tricks. For example, I politely tell sick people that I prefer not to catch what they've got. I also report broken equipment to the staff over and over until it gets attention.

Windward City 24 Hour Fitness
by trikona-asana ,Mar 06 '08
Pros: I love the yoga classes and hours of operation.
Cons: Women's showers are often clogged and have no soap. Janitorial equipment is displayed but unused.
I bought my membership to stay in shape. I am doing that, but I think the managers of this gym need to pay more attention to sanitation of the equipment and the locker rooms. Who wants to see dust and sweat stains on the treadmills, then take a shower in an unclean place?

Also, the parking lot is poorly maintained. The same trash remains on the ground for days on end. I once saw 5 discarded disposable diapers in the same spot for a week. There was a discarded auto battery under a tree for a week or so. (I hauled it away finally.) Now I see broken automobile glass in a couple of the parking spaces, indicating that cars are being broken into. Does anyone read these reviews? Can we get some help here?
