Details: The subwoofer is a vitally important component in home cinema systems. Low frequency sounds, such as explosions, rumblings and scary music, add a lot to movie atmosphere, so full audio enjoyment requires deep, clear bass response. This is even truer with 5.1 - channel sound, because the sixth channel is the Low Frequency Effect channel. In addition, without a subwoofer, you'll lose much of the bass effect at low volume levels.
