This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Audio Mixer: Andy Wallace. After making its bones on the indie label Victory, in 2007 Atreyu was poised to dive into the mainstream. These veterans of the metalcore scene made their major label debut with LEAD SAILS PAPER ANCHOR. For production duties, Atreyu recruited Goldfinger vocalist John "Feldy" Feldmann to helm the boards. Thrashy, grooving riffs dominate "Honor" and lead-off track "Doomsday; classic 1980s thrash metal rears its head on "Blow"; while early Slayer gets an obvious nod on the sinister-sounding "Becoming the Bull." LEAD SAILS, however, is as melodically sensitive a statement as it is a sonically powerful one, a notion perhaps best evidenced by the Green Day-channeling "Falling Down." Atreyu is usually categorized as a metalcore act, but the group's facility with melodic hooks on LEAD SAILS PAPER ANCHOR proves that they are not far removed from the pop-influenced punkster tradition of their ... |
