This is part of Curb's Bocephus series. Although in most respects a typical early '80s Hank Williams, Jr. album, if you listen closely here there are signs of change to come. Two songs, the otherwise amusing "Now I Know How George Feels," and the cautionary "It Just Don't Get it No More," hint that Williams' hellraising was taking a personal toll. Elsewhere, however, it's rowdy business as usual, with a fine de rigeur cover of a song associated with his father ("Lovesick Blues"), and a raucous take on country standard ("Orange Blossom Special"). There's also a nervy remake of a pop hit--the Hollies "The Air That I Breathe"--that you wouldn't automatically assume to be Williams' style. |
