The hoof of a mountain goat has a very clever design. The outside is strong and hard, but the middle of the hoof is made of a softer material. This way, if a mountain goat steps on a pointed rock, the point will go up into the hoof instead of causing the goat to balance on the tip, which will make it slip. A very good design by mother nature to keep goats running even in the most rugged of terrain. Now, what does that have to do with the Air Terra Humara you ask? well, if you look on the bottom of the new Humara, you will see a logo displaying "G-Tech." This G-Tech stands for Goat tech. The sneaker was designed based on the principle of a goat's hoof, and this makes for an excellent trail running shoe.
The shoe has no leather on it, all nylon mesh and other synthetic materials, making for a very light breathable shoe, but it doesn't loose any of the durablility or support. The shoe is also waterproof, a good addition for running in a potentially wet environment. It has the normal air bubble in the heel, like most Nike shoes these days have. The innovation though is in the midsole and outsole. You can see a platic bubble type device in the middle of the outsole, filled with air. This is the middle of the goat's hoof, the softest part, wchich will contour to the shape of the terrain on which you are running,greatly reducing slipping and enchancing traction. There are also aother soft parts of the outsole. On the shoe I sell, they are yellow sections of the outsole underneath the shoe, they may be other colors on other variations of the shoe. These are softer than the typical outsole nike uses. These sections are not filled with air, but still are soft enough to contour to the shape of the terrain. then the rest of the outsole is regular outsole material.
The comfort on the sneaker isn't anything special. It is of average comfort, much like any other similarly priced nike air shoe. It stands out in its exceptionality as a trail running shoe. This is probably the best trail running shoe I have come across as of yet.
