Safety Issues While Doing Disney With Young Ones
Jun 06 '00
When we visited Disney World last year, I had a 3 year old, 7 year old, and 8 year old. One of my biggest concerns was their safety. My husband and I discussed it on our two day trip down to Florida.
We had already decided to have the entire family wear matching outfits of a visible color. We choose red. It worked great to see everyone quickly. I noticed while there that a lot of families did this. Some even did flourescent colors and this was REALLY visible. Others put there kids all in matching, bright striped shirts. Also very visible. My red shirts worked for us but next time I will choose one of these other ideas.
Next, we told the kids what to do when seperated. We choose a meeting place and made sure they all knew our full names. All but our youngest did. This was a relief. They also all knew the basic stranger danger things like screaming if picked up by someone.
For our youngest, we rented a stroller that we could strap him in when we were not on rides. This was a major relief because otherwise he would be running around and easily lost in the crowd. The strollers are pretty cheap to rent and last year were only $6. Then when you turned them in you got a dollor of Disney money back to spend as you wish. We actually saved the Disney dollar because it looke really neat and we put it in our memory book.
Another thing you could do for older kids is to get them each a map of Disney for their pockets with a pre-arranged meeting spot marked with an X if they get lost. This would work great for the over 7 age group. I thought of this on the way home so didn't use it but will next time.
Stay Safe!
