Top 10 Watering Holes at Walt Disney World. For Adults Only!
Dec 28 '00
If you are traveling to Walt Disney World alone, or without the kids, perhaps you will be looking for a more adult type vacation. Not, that you would not enjoy a nice trip on Space Mountain, but if you are looking for an Adults beverage, you had better leave the Magic Kingdom, where no Alcohol is served.
If you are into the Nightclub scene, I suggest that you visit Pleasure Island, which is located at Downtown Disney. That is another review, all in itself.
For now I will highlight the Top 10, watering holes, enjoyed by guest and cast members alike.
First, few WDW drinking tips:
Keep in mind that the legal drinking age in Florida is 21. You must present a drivers license, military ID, or Passport. Don't even try to sneak a fake ID by a Disney Cast Member. I know Cast Members that keep large scrapbooks of all of the fake ID's that they have confiscated.
It s very expensive to drink at WDW. It can cost upward of $6.00 for domestic beer. A glass of House wine, $10.00, a slush type Margarita will set you back $8.00! Be careful about using you Room charge option if you will be doing a lot of drinking, it can ads up really quick!
I have come up with a standard for my Top 10 list of places to get an adult beverage at Walt Disney World.
1. It has to have a nice atmosphere.
2. There should be themed drinks, that match the theme of the bar or restaurant.
3. If it is a tavern or bar at Epcot, they should have a beer, native of the country that the pavilion represents.
4.There must be little or no cover charge.
5.It has to be FUN.
6.There must be a good selection of light snacks or sandwiches.
Here is my Top 10 list, in descending order.
10. Tune In Lounge: This cute little bar is just inside of the lobby at the Prime Time 50's Cafe. you can order popular drinks from the 50's such as a Martini, or an old fashioned. You can watch old reruns of Leave it to Beaver, while sitting on an Orange Vinyl sofa. The room looks just like your grandma's house, down to the formica tables, and the brass Jell-o molds on the walls.
9.The Muddy Rivers Pool Bar: This is a little poolside bar, which is right on the water at Dixie Landings. You can get specialty cajun themed drinks, like Dixie Beer, and Blackened Voodoo Beer.No glass is allowed by the Pool. But,you can get your drinks to go, so you can relax in a lounge chair by the Old Man River Pool.
8.Siesta's:This Pool Side Bar, is a Coronado Springs. It has an Aztec Theme. You can pick up a Margarita, or a Mexican Beer, and play a round or horseshoes on the Beach, or join a game of Sand Volley ball. You could really spend all day here if you wanted to, there is enough to do to keep any adult entertained for hours, there is even an arcade.
7.California Grill Lounge: This classy lounge is on the Top Floor of the Contemporary Hotel. You will have a perfect view of the fire works from the Magic Kingdom, if your timing is right. They serve specialty wines. You can also order light snack and menu items from the California Grill Steakhouse, which is next door. This is a very romantic spot.
6. Scat Cat's Club: This moody lounge is in the lobby at Port Orleans. It is small, but the lounge will be taking over the area, left by recently closed Bonfamilles restaurant. There is usually a musician or a comic performing each night. There is also a big screen TV. The drinks are southern specialty's, There is a fair selection of frozen and standard bar drinks.
5. Sommerfest:This bar is located in the Germany Pavilion at Epcot. This one wins the theming award. It feels just like the Oktoberfest in Germany. You can grab a Beck's Beer, and a Bratwurst and enjoy yourself in the in the Beirgarten, You can watch the live show inside, which features German Dancers and Musicians. This is so much fun, be sure to check it out.
4. Rose and Crown: This quaint little pub is in the United Kingdom, at Epcot. This happens to be one of the best spots to watch the Illuminations show. Arrive early and have a bass Ale, or a Guiness Beer.
if you are hungry, grab an order of Fish and Chips. They serve beers from England, Ireland and Scotland.
3.The Atlantic Dance Club. This popular Swing Dance Club is on the Boardwalk, at the Boardwalk resort. The atmosphere is 1940. The drinks are nothing special, but I love to watch the dancers, who often show up in Zoot suits, and other period clothing. If there is popular Band playing, there may be a small cover charge of about $5.00, but is nominal for the entertainment.Kids are welcome inside, if they are with a parent.
2. The ESPN Club: This club is also at the Boardwalk Resort. It is a Sports Bar. There is a restaurant, that is way from the actual bar. This is the place to go to Watch Monday Night Football or the latest Mike Tyson fight. They have trivia contest, in which you may win ESPN T-Shirts or Beach Towels. They have a full menu.I recommend the French Fries, which are seasoned with Sea Salt. The drink menu varies from the standard Budweiser to exotic frozen drinks.
1. This may seem insane, but I would not be listing it here, if it weren't so popular.
Around the World. Yes This is a tradition among locals, and Disney Cast Members. Whenever any one turns 21, or has a Bachelor Party, or is leaving the Company (or any other excuse you can think of) his friends take him Around the World.
This involves having the native specialty in each of the 9 countries represented in the World Showcase at Epcot. I know it is crazy, It is also expensive. You can expect to spend over $60.00 in drinks and tips before your night is over.
How about starting in Mexico, with either a Corona Beer, or a Margarita, the Moving to Norway, and having a Norweigan Beer, then stumble over to China for a Red Chinese Beer. You are just getting started as you move to Germany for a 33 once Stein of Beck's Beer. gather your stomach and move along to Italy for a glass of Italian Wine or an Italian Beer. At the American beer, you get the American Favorite Budweiser or Bud Light. You aren't done yet. you get some Saki in Japan, and then something you can't pronounce in Morocco. In France, if you are still standing how about some French Champagne.
Finally, if you have not been kicked out of Epcot for disorderly conduct, down a Guiness Beer!
I have not participated in this ghastly tradition but I have seen the results many times! It isn't pretty.
I also recommend NOT riding the Small World ride, after going Around the World. You may have dream of dolls taking over the World.
See, WDW is not just for the Kids.
