About apowell
|
I have professional experience in radio & TV production since 1968. I have both a Master's and Ph.D. in Adult Education, with additional experience in Educational Technology. I do most of my own auto and home repair, upkeep and handyman work. I started playing golf recently and enjoy it. I am a commercially experienced videographer and photographer, and occasionally write commercials and do voice work. I manage distance education programs (online, videotape and correspondence) for a large state University.
I do most of my own repair and maintenance work in the following areas: auto mechanics, electronics including satellite dish setup, carpentry and home repair, plumbing and computers. I also play bass in a surf band and refinish my own instruments.
My personality is such that I can't just buy and use something - I want to know and understand the principles by which it works. This means I generally do quite a bit of homework before buying anything, and I want to understand what I'm gaining and giving up in choosing between two models. I am technically oriented and find there are few products that don't lend themselves to analysis based on my needs and goals for using the product.
I make it a point to read owner's manuals, and I expect a device to do 100% of what it's designed and promised to do. On the other hand, I don't expect devices to do anything they were not designed to do. Most of my reviews are positive because I do a lot of homework before making most purchases, so I don't get stuck with lemons very often. OTOH, if I buy something and it stinks, you'll hear that loud and clear!
