About arktos
I'm from the great and glorious city of Glasgow, situated in central/west Scotland. I'm a librarian, although we call ourselves information scientists these days (just to confuse folk) and currently working in a government agency, which is fine. In the past year, I've rediscovered the joys of reading - especially non-fiction. I've been sampling different authors' work and so far have devoured anything by Christopher Brookmyre (a local boy with a sharp wit and a great storytelling talent). Other books I've enjoyed in the past year: Gladys Reunited by Sandi Toksvig; Only in America by Dominic Holland; The Night Listener by Armistead Maupin; McCarthy's Bar and The Road to McCarthy by the late, great Pete McCarthy; Do Not Pass Go by Tim Moore; Blackberry Wine, Coastliners and Holy Fools by Joanne Harris ;and all the Dan Brown books. As well as reading, I enjoy travel, especially to cities. Favourite locations include Dublin, Amsterdam, Rome, Seville, Tallinn, Budapest, Vienna, New York, Toronto and Washington, DC. My wish list is long, but includes San Francisco, Dallas, Portland, Vancouver, Sydney, Tokyo and a quick stop over in Beijing for a cup of tea. I'm an independent gay guy with an easy-going attitude to life and a sense of humour below the surface that's never long in bubbling up. My writing hit the blocks for a while, but this site has given me a second wind, and I'm enjoying reading the reviews and writing a few myself - the comments from other members around the world are really encouraging - thank you!
