About briannewberry
I was born in 1966. My dad was in the Air Force, so I moved around a lot, living in Virginia, Texas, Mississippi, New York and California.

In 1984 I graduated from Ontario High School in Ontario, California. The next day (literally) I enlisted in the Air Force with a guaranteed job as Korean linguist.

Korean language training was at the Presidio of Monterey in mid-state California right on the coast.

We could smell the ocean, hear the waves crashing on the rocks & see the seagulls flying in. I was 18 years old. I had just gotten out of bootcamp and instead of being surrounded by 40 other stinky, smelly "men", I was once again in the company of girls - some military, some civilian. All beautiful. Now I ask you, "Who could focus on learning Korean under such distracting conditions?"

Well as you can probably imagine I failed Korean in 1985. So I became a B-52 mechanic stationed in Rome, New York. Griffiess Air Force Base (the coldest temperature (not an average mind you, but the "coldest") was 60 below zero). The average winter temperature was about 10'. They had a saying at Griffiss. "There's only 2 seasons in these parts: Winter and '4th of July'."

In 1988, I transfered out of Bomber maintenance and into Combat Communications. My assignment was in Southern California, but before that - I did my Communications TRAINING at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi.

In 1989 I returned to California and reported for duty at the 222nd Costa Mesa Air National Guard Base. This was only one weekend per month.

During this time, I went through several other jobs. Assistant Manager at the Mann's Theatres in Hawthorne, Retail Loss Prevention for Sears, Robuck in Montclair and shortly thereafter - I got a job at Denny's coffeeshop.

My wife Martina & I met in February, 1990 while I was waiting tables at a Denny's in Upland, California.

In 1991, during my time in the California Air Guard, I was reassigned to ACTIVE DUTY in response to Operation Desert Shield.

I did several "real-world" activities here in the U.S. but fortunately by the grace of Allah, I did NOT go to Iraq.

Shortly after Desert Storm concluded in 1992, I discharged from the Air National Guard, and got a job working with the Pomona Valley Transportation Aurhority. My job was selling bus passes and routing people from Point "A" to Point "B" by using the bus.

Shortly thereafter, I became a software instructor working for an excellent agency called CCT. I went to various clients (small-to-large companies), teaching MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Web-design and other fun computer stuff! The agency went through some hard times, money was tight, and I ended up finding little oddjobs elsewhere...

Since that time I've been trying to find somethng - occupationally speaking - I could really sink my teeth into. I've not yet found anything I've stayed with for more than 3 years, but I've had a lot of fun looking.

A short time ago, my wife Martina & I rented a moving truck (Penske had the best deal), loaded up all our furniture, books, appliances and office equipment and moved out to Sumter, South Carolina, a small town about 50 miles east of the state capital of Columbia.

We missed "big city life", so after about 3 months in Sumter, we moved to Columbia. But after 2 months, we realized Columbia was also well... "Not Home". We were utterly "home-sick".

Although Columbia is a lovely city, we missed California very much so we came back home & now we're living right off Hollywood Blvd. Things are good.

I am now working for METRO, L.A.'s primary public transit system. Stay tuned...
