Even though I am not a prolific contributor I am very enthusiastic about Epinions and the direction it is going.
The Writer's Corner is a terrific outlet for fledgling scribes, and the immediate feedback and ability to edit our own copy as much as we want provides a unique, vibrant tool for any wordsmith.
I increasingly turn to Epinions before making a travel or consumer decision. There is no feedback like honest consumer feedback. Sometimes I think this is like the Consumer Reports of the internet.
If anything I wrote helped you in some way, I would love to know about it. And if you find out something new about something I've reviewed, I'd appreciate knowing about it.
How I rate reviews:
VH-I don't dole out VH's very often, even if I really like a previous review of yours, I rate only the epinion in front of me. For a VH, I need DETAILS. Don't just tell me the food was great in Seville, that doesn't do me any good if I am planning a trip there ... tell me WHERE you ate!
And summarizing the guide books is fine, but what I look for in Epinions is the benefit of your PERSONAL experience. Tell me something that ISN'T in the guidebooks. A particular hotel you stumbled upon, the name of a surprisingly good but cheap restaurant, etc.
H- is just that. Helpful, but probably needed more detail.
I usually try to explain myself if I rate something SH or NH. If I haven't, and you want to know my reasoning behind my rating, then email me and I will be glad to
comment.
In movie reviews, to get a VH from me you must have more than a description of the plot and your reaction. Give me some cinematic commentary. The lighting, acting, editing, camerawork, sound, music, pacing, dialogue etc. Tell me about the look of the film.
Finally, if you like something I have read, go ahead and put me on your email alerts. I am not a prolific epinionator, so you will not be bothered by a review a day popping up in your mail. I only write a few reviews annually.
