My home town is Perth, West Oz, a pleasant middle-aged, middle-class city with no pretensions to cosmopolitanism. The most isolated city in the world, it is flanked on one side by endless ocean, on the other by desert. In order to stay sane, I get on a plane and fly east or overseas, but always come home again.

My interests are varied: writing, reading, running, swimming and, more recently, belly dancing and golf; languages, culture and cuisine are also big part of my life, and whenever I go overseas I bring back music and cookbooks to re-create the atmosphere in my own home. I prefer American and foreign authors to British or Australian, but for me foreign movies are tops, particularly those from Mainland China.

I love good conversation with people whose interests are varied and who are tolerant of different viewpoints and opinions. I don’t relate to Australian men at all (I think most of them come from another planet) and feel very drawn towards cultures other than my own. Could be something to do with my European roots.

I’ve been writing for Epinions since mid-2000, and since many of the products on the site aren’t available in Australia, I tend to review books and movies (not the best-paying products but the most accessible). Epinions is a good way of interacting with different nationalities and discovering new things through others’ experiences.

Now here's an interesting item I discovered on another reviewer's profile page: making your own map of the countries you've visited. However it's a bit misleading because it indicates the traveller has been all over a particular country, rather than to specific places.

Still, it looks impressive, doesn't it!
